Book Reviews of First FamilyBook Review: Good author Summary: 5 Stars
I have always enjoyed Baldacci's books and this one didn't disappoint. It was a little slow going getting into it, but it did pick up and hold my interest. Fans of Baldacci won't be disappointed.
On another note...I think it's crazy that so many people have given this book 1 star based solely on price and I really think Amazon should remove all non-reviews of the actual book material. If the rating is based solely on the price of the book it should be yanked to be fair to the author. Because, honestly, at first I wasn't going to get it based on the average star rating shown on Amazon. It was only after I read the reviews, and realized 90% of the one star reviews were from people crying over the book price, that I reconsidered. It is really unfair to the author.
Book Review: Is Baldacci Losing His Creative Compass ? Summary: 2 Stars
I have finnished Mr. Baldacci latest "First Family". It is most unfortunate for me as I found his start slow, his characters not developed and his plot unrealistic. Damn! I was looking forward to reading this. Then to be dissapointed.
Mr. Baldacci does not owe me anythihg but the best novel he can write. "First family" is far from his best in my opinion. Not even close.
The creative well is not bottomless and perhaps he is finding it. My suggestion is for him to take a long well deserved vacation and search out new plots and characters. He certainly has the talent.
I may ask for my money back on this one. It certainly did not live up to my expectations, and my guess, his.

Book Review: Thoroughly enjoyable read Summary: 4 Stars
I've always enjoyed David Baldacci's pairing of Sean King and Michelle Maxwell, ever since their first outing in "Split Second". This is (from memory) their fourth outing, featuring badness in hig places (a constant Baldacci theme) and the ghosts of Michelle's past (a recurring theme). It has (to me) the usual Baldacci problems that the baddies are just too ingenious and the heroes just too prescient to be really believeable. In addition, I always get the impression that, after a careful build-up, Mr. Baldacci races us through to the conclusion, almost as if he wants to avoid our noticing the plot weaknesses. However, I always find the books enormously entertaining and compulsively page-turning, and this one is no exception. Here's to the next one.
Book Review: Whew! Exhausting... Summary: 4 Stars
I had a heck of a time starting this book. I was interrupted so many times with various trips, events, etc. Each time I had to start over, cause I couldn't keep the characters straight. Finally, I got going and it turned out to be a good Washington (well, all over the place, actually.)thriller. I love Sean and Michelle. I can't wait to check out Simple Genius to see their entrance. Anyway, it starts with a kidnapping of the First Lady's niece. There are a million different subplots, but if you have patience with them and stay with it, it is worth it. Sean and Michelle are the real stars of this book, but the niece is pretty cool, too. Lots of interesting characters. An ending like Watergate. Oops, I think I said too much.
Book Review: Fairly interesting thriller Summary: 3 Stars
My second foray into the fictional world of David Baldacci (after reading "The Simple Truth") wasn't too bad. Two former Secret Service agents-turned-PIs (Sean King and Michelle Maxwell) are hired by Pam Dutton, the sister-in-law of the First Lady, Jane Cox, for an unknown reason. They try to meet with her and find her dead and her 12-year-old daughter, Willa, missing. There are many red herrings in this thriller as well as amiable characters and not enough action. The villain, Sam Quarry, takes second place to the vile machinations of Jane Cox (by the end of the book, I wanted someone to beat her senseless). It's a decent rainy day read, but it's not spectacular.
