Book Review: Do you really have two hours available to cook your baby's dinner?!
Summary: 3 Stars

While the recipes for the youngest babies are fine (well, it's not exactly hard to puree a couple of pears!), as the book goes on its recipes become ever more sophisticated and time-consuming. There are meals in here that require more ingredients and preparation time than I would invest in an adult dinner party! And at least your dinner party guests will actually appreciate your offerings instead of point blank refusing to touch them, as has happened on more than one occasion when I've ill-advisedly summoned the effort and time commitment to slog away at one of Ms. Karmel's gourmet creations.

The book is certainly very pretty, as all the Dorling Kindersley publications are. As to whether it is actually useful... unless you are prepared to commit substantial amounts of time and effort into preparing your children's meals, only to find that they may well reject them anyway, I would go with something a little less challenging.

Book Review: GREAT for picky eaters!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have a 3 year old with severe food allergies and I was desperate to do anything to get him to eat SOMETHING! We looked at this book together and because of all the pictures he really got excited about the food. I am not sure I would buy this book because of the baby food, although I will make some of the baby food as 'dips' for veggies. It is inspirational, although I don't usually have the time for some of the recipes, I do some prep stuff ahead of time and have it stored in the freezer.

If you have a picky eater and are desperate for some inspiration and help, then this is the book for you. If your child is a nonpicky eater but you enjoy cooking for fun with your child, then this is the book for you. If you don't have a picky eater and are a busy working mom who does not enjoy cooking, then borrow this from the library because there are some good easy ideas that are fun for you and your child but I wouldn't buy it.

Book Review: Good food good variety!
Summary: 4 Stars

I really liked this book BECAUSE it uses some different ingedients I wasnt thinking about before such as leeks, parsnips and even mild curry for my baby. Its good to offer new tastes to children. Most of the cooking isnt that bad I thought, but I do like to cook. It can seem more difficult than throwing something in the microwave but different cooking methods are better for retaining the nutrition of food. Some of the other recipies that were deemed "too hard" by other reviewers are meant for special occasions or have titles that sound exotic but this doesnt mean difficult. All in all it will gently push you to try out new ideas you may not have thought of on your own and gives alot of good advice along the way. My only problem is that some of the foods seem a little advanced for the section they are in so you just have to judge your child's ability and maybe wait on some things.

Book Review: Best Ever Cookbook
Summary: 5 Stars

I have many cookbooks and many children's cookbooks. I was searching for the healthiest and most delicious foods for my child. After reading books on nutrition by Dr. Sears and Ruth Yaron's book, I have found that Annabel Karmel's books are the best compilation of serious nutrition, healthy cooking, food preparation and the most key and important factor....great flavor. Her recipes are great for all ages...my whole family eats the recipes from her books. For example, her spinach lasgne recipe in her second edition First Meals is so great we cannot stop eating it...after a very extensive search and trial and error from other recipes in other cookbooks....we found a true award winning recipe. All her recipes are great...I can say that after cooking for two decades(and the past five years cooking for children) This cookbook should be on every family's shelves.

Book Review: Fun, fast and healthy
Summary: 4 Stars

If you really are interested in preparing your children's food because you are sick to death of all the unhealthy garbage that proliferates prepackaged food then this book is for you. If you are just wanting something easy, then it probably isn't. Other reviewers scoffed at using semolina, etc but these ingredients are actually relatively easy to find. The trouble is most of us have just gotten so complacent that we don't move beyond our norm. Also, this kindsof ingredients are much healthier for your child & for me, at least, that was the whole purpose of making her baby food! You don't have to do all the "fancy" presentations the author use, but it certainly makes it fun for your toddler and they can also assist you in preparing the food. The whole point is to get our kids eating better and this book is a great tool for that.
