Book Reviews of First Meals Revised: Fast, healthy, and fun foods to tempt infants and toddlersBook Review: My kids are fabulous eaters because of this book. Summary: 5 Stars
I can not rave about this book enough. As a new mom, I was really nervous about starting my baby on solid foods. My sister recommended this book to me and it served as my "owner's manual" for feeding my son. He is now three, my daughter is 14 months and they both love what I have cooked out of this book. Because of this book, my kids were exposed to a variety of textures and flavors at an early age. They are both now fabulous eaters. My 3 year old eats salad, lentils, cous cous...You name it. Futhermore it is my opinion that beyond the baby recipes, you can make ONE meal for your entire family from most of the recipes. Is this book perfect? No, but I cook from it weekly and my kids/ family are better for it.
Book Review: Great book, recipes take some effort but worth it Summary: 4 Stars
I looked quite a bit for a kids cookbook and was very happy with this one. It is true that you probably wouldn't have parsnips laying around, but if you want to change up what your kid eats and provide some variety there are some good recipes here. I have found that the prep and cooking isn't terribly involved, but some of the assembly is, which I why I just make chicken sausage but neglect to make them into cutesy "chicken sausage snails." If you can get away with not making your kid's food not look like shapes or animals, you recover some time. Also, make double or triple batches and freeze the food, which comes in really handy later...better than chicken nuggets or ordering pizza.
Book Review: Great recipes Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased "First Meals" when my son made the switch from purees to table foods. We had already been given "Top 101 Baby Purees" as a gift and had great success with many of the recipes. I was somewhat disappointed that the puree section of "First Meals" had many of the same recipes as the other book, but as we were not using those recipes anymore, it didn't make much difference. My son can be a somewhat picky eater, so I was anxious to find some foods that he would enjoy. I am very pleased to say that of the handful of recipes we have tried, he has enjoyed every single one. I find that the meals are easy to make and many are easy to freeze so that excess can be saved for later.
Book Review: Great cook book for baby foods! Summary: 5 Stars
My partner and I really love this cook book. The recipes are easy and everyone keeps asking us where we buy our baby food. They are really surprised that we didn't buy it at all buy made it at home. Making your own baby food sounds like a lot of work, but it is actually pretty easy. Our 8 month old hasn't turned down a meal from it yet! Aside from the great recipes, the book also includes helpful information about when to feed your growing infant different types of food, organic vegetables and general nutrition for growing babies. An excellent purchase that encouraged us to make our own recipes and we even bought Karmel's toddler cook book for future use!
Book Review: Children's Gourmet - For the Gourmet in Every Mom Summary: 5 Stars
If you are ready to break out of that cookie cutter form that some people are in, and prefer not to raise your child on a White bread, peanut butter and jelly no crust diet then this book is for you! This has great ideas. If you don't have the time, you don't have to go as extravagent, but to kids it is much more fun if the presentation of your food is nice. Just like it is for adults, if your food looks good it tastes better. The recipes include a ton of creative and delicious recipes for even the pickiest infant and toddler. My son loves this type of food. Plus, you can rest easy knowing that you gave your child the best nutrition since infancy.
