Book Reviews of First Meals Revised: Fast, healthy, and fun foods to tempt infants and toddlers

Book Review: More than just another cookbook
Summary: 4 Stars

First Meals should never replace your pediatrician's advice for safe and healthy eating, as other reviewers have stated - but I think its greatest worth is in:
1 - Explaining how to safely prepare baby's first meals (I was clueless on this) and introduce her to new tastes and textures.
2 - Inspiring parents to think beyond chicken nuggets and fish crackers. Anything that can get families to eat healthier (and tastier at the same time) is all right by me.
You will enjoy this book - but be sure to compare the author's list of first foods with the AAP's current guidelines on what foods should be introduced and when.

Book Review: Ehhh, pretty unimaginative
Summary: 2 Stars

I am a very good cook, but I have been stuck when trying to create tasty meals for my little monkey. I bought this book anticipating great ideas and tasty recipes. For one thing, the recipes are very boring and not hard to figure out for yourself, without a cookbook telling you; for instance fruit skewers, rolled up PBnJ.

A couple of the recipes peaked my interest, the vegetable chips and veggie fritters...the recipes were horrible. They didn't come out the way the description explained they would. Everything I tried to make that was out of the ordinary turned out poorly. I assume these were not tested recipes.

Book Review: Great variety for baby
Summary: 4 Stars

One of the most challenging questions of being a new parent is - what do I feed this little person? This book gives some great ideas for adding variety to your baby's diet. Some of the recipes are a little over-the-top and, let's face it, I'm sticking with store-bought baby food rather than making purees at home (who has the time?). But when you have a baby that eats like a bottomless pit (like my 9-month-old) there are some great recipes that are appetizing and well-balanced. It's a great help when you want to make sure your baby is getting everything he/she needs in their diet.

Book Review: Fun to read - many good ideas
Summary: 4 Stars

I am not a fan of looking through recipe books, but this one had nice pictures and an appealing layout so I did actually enjoy reading it. It has a lot of good ideas for parents who aren't sure what to feed their babies and toddlers. The instructions are fairly straightforward and easy to follow. Some of the recipes are quite advanced and include ingredients I have never heard of, but there are many that are very simple. I think it is a good mix and has a lot of good ideas that I hadn't thought of (mini cream cheese and jam sandwiches, cream of tomato soup, etc.)

Book Review: Tasty Healthy Treats-for babies, toddlers and preschoolers
Summary: 5 Stars

Just because it's designed for babies, does not mean you or a friend, even a spouse won't enjoy these meals. They're great finger foods for parties, basketball games, etc. Instead of pigs-n-a- blanket or chips, try one of the delicious and healthy finger foods from FIRST MEALS. Why not take care of your BIG BABY? After all, he was here before the little ones and it's just as important to take care of all of our love ones. This book has great photos of the meals and easy to follow directions. The have fun foods that peaky preschoolers will love. See for yourself!
