Book Reviews of Fit for LifeBook Review: An excellent approach to natural weight loss! Summary: 4 Stars
One of the most interesting and controversial books to ever come out on the topic of good health and weight loss, Fit for Life sold millions of copies and helped many people. The book was largely ridiculed by the established nutrition experts who at the time attacked the credibility of the authors Harvey & Marilyn Diamond.Whilst the critics went about their fault finding ways, hundreds of thousands of people around the world received incredible health gains and weight loss by following the simple principles. The book is actually based on the study of Natural Health, or more specifically Natural Hygiene, which is a lifestyle philosophy which has been practiced for over 100 years. Natural Hygiene is a way of eating that is in harmony with the bodies natural cycles, thereby allowing the body to cleanse itself of built up toxins which our normal western style diets don't allow. Basically the body has three main cycles, but the key one for good health and weight loss is the elimination cycle.. Fit for Life shows you how to eat in a manner that is in harmony with these body cycles and the result can be a dramatic increase in energy and feelings of well being, as well as a resultant loss of excess fats and toxins. If you have never read Fit For Life you should most definetly get yourself a copy and give it a read. It makes good common sense and after a week following the principles you'll feel great and be on the road to good health and losing those excess pounds.
Book Review: Proof of Fit For Life Summary: 5 Stars
I've owned this book for years. It's an excellent resource for eating healthier. ...Even though some of the principles, if followed to the letter, might be nutrient deficient, it truly produces good results. And not just weight loss, it truly improves your mental state. Your energy level will truly increase by following these principles. Just following the fruit 'til noon greatly increases your chances of success. You don't have to do anything you don't like...but fresh squeezed OJ with half an apple in the AM is more satisfying than you think. Not being a salad person, being able to add olives & sunflower seeds makes it more appealing...with a side of brown bread everyday for lunch, I lost 4 pounds in a week...and I cheated the rest of the day...I had cookies in between, 2nd helpings at dinner...but that AM regiman is what worked with moderate exercise. The book progressively enlightens you and is easy to follow. Menus for a full month help take the guesswork out of food planning. But it's easy to follow anyway. In the end, there are not an abundance of rules. Now I still drink milk in moderation, and I think that if you find the diet lacking in certain aspects..go ahead...make up for them. Just do it later in the day and in moderation, take supplements. Even without complete scientific backing, this "diet" (change of eating), is well worth looking into and can be fit into the way you live. It's an informative book well worth reading.
Book Review: Excellent diet - it works - BUT ignore the bizarre rationale Summary: 4 Stars
I lived on this diet - mostly - for several years in the early 1990's and it was the healthiest time of my life. My cholesterol dropped to 176. It had not been under 225 in decades (now I'm no longer strictly on the diet, but on Lipitor, that works too, but side effects?).
Funny thing is, that prior to adopting this diet, my diet was already superb by modern standards. Fish, skinless chicken, low-fat, lots of vegetables and fruits,(which I happen to love), and low-fat dairy.
Oh yeah, I had forgotten: are you sitting down? I had acid stomach since I was in my teens. Lived on Rolaids. This diet cured that. Gee the more I write about it, the more I wonder why I let myself drift away. Ack, I remember now: business travel and airplane meals. (No wonder I blocked the memory out...). Back then, airports did not have the relatively fine food choices they do now (at least most major hubs do, except Dulles C&D).
Cutting out most dairy - just that one act - left me feeling much healthier. The rationale the authors claim in the book for doing that makes me gag, it seems so simple-minded and dumb, but the action worked.
One of the rules is don't take the rules as absolutes, by the way. Don't drive yourself crazy with it.
I'm thinking of buying the updated edition (Kindle so I'll always have it on my PC with me) and gravitate back to the diet. My own variation of it of course.

Book Review: Best Plan I've Done Summary: 5 Stars
I used to do this program and I am thinking about doing it again. I felt the best I've ever felt while doing it and I looked fantastic too. Photos of me from that time are glowing and healthy. I had lots of energy for work and exercising, my sex drive was the strongest it's ever been, and when I ran into old friends they said, "you are looking great...(pause)...really great." Everyone I ran into commented on how "good" I looked.
I do believe a lot of people on here don't seem to understand the diet. You do NOT have to be vegan or eat only raw foods to follow this diet. They even tell you that in the book. It is actually explained much better in Fit For Life II: Living Health. The Diamonds believe it is ideal to eat more raw foods and less meat, but you can do whatever you want. They even give a case history of a man they counseled who eats steaks and salads, and does well on the diet. For the woman on here who has hypoglycemia, you don't need to eat tons of fruit all day long, you can have a fruit breakfast and then at noon, have a protein lunch, maybe a chicken breast and salad, or a tofu stir fry, whatever you're into.
After graduating college, I let working all the time and stress get to me. I am now, on a regular American diet, 20 pounds overweight and tired much of the time. I'm going to try Fit For Life again! That being said, I do believe in biochemical individuality, so for some people, this program my not work. For me, it was a godsend.
Book Review: I'm actually finally losing weight!!! Summary: 5 Stars
Today is my 5th day following this plan and I have lost almost a pound per day!!! This is incredible! I'm actually doing better than the book tells you to do because I don't eat concentrated foods. Not often anyhow. I eat just fruits till noon and then after thatI eat only veggies and space it about 2 hours apart. I eat an afternoon snack like almonds or some type of nut just to hold me off till supper time and I have 1 serving of sugar busters icecream every day. I am really losing by just spaceing all my meals about 2-3 hours apart and eating foods that are easy for my body to digest and at the same time get the nutrition I need. Every once in a while I'll eat some type of meat, but no more than a couple times a week. I don't eat any junkfood anymore and I am really hoping that this will be the answer to not only help me lose all the weight I have to lose, but to help me with my fertility problems. I have unexplained fertility and I want to help heal myself throuht a good diet and I honestly feel THIS IS IT!!! The only trouble I have on this plan is sometimes I get a little hungry and know I still have to wait till a certain time to eat and trying to get used to eating my veggies raw. I never really liked Carrots, but I am little by little trying to make myself like the taste. Now, I'm actually starting to like it. I steam my broccoli for 10 mintues and enjoy that as well. All I have to really say is that this way of eating works!!
