Book Reviews of For a Few Demons More (The Hollows, Book 5)Book Review: I almost did not finish it!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I Never heard of Kim Harrison, but one of the books I received when I joined the SciFi book club, was an omnibus of the first three books in this series. I started reading the book, and was immediately absorbed into the complex environment of the hollow. All that, till I arrived to the segment, where Rachel is transforming herself into a mink. Ms Harrison had described the mink as a RODENT!!! Most of us, of course. know that a mink is a CARNIVORE!! I was ready to quit the reading of the book, but luckily, the story line was stronger than my repulsion! :) Great series, with vivid and absorbing story lines. The heroine is a strong person (even if she does not recognize it), full of compassion and wit. All the surrounding characters are equally interesting.
MS. HARRISON, PLEASE CORRECT THE MISTAKE IN FUTURE EDITIONS!!! Or, if you want to stay with a rodent, you can put in a chinchilla. Another animal who is used in the fur trade. UNFORTUNATELY.
Book Review: I would givie it 5 stars but..... Summary: 4 Stars
This is another very good installment in the Rachel Mogan/The Hallows series. I have become quite a fan of the series because they can be so believable. The characters appear real, the emotions real, and if you stretch your imagination just a little, it could be a very believable world. She explores emotions all of us have every day about love, life, friends, ethics, and good vs. bad. My two problems were that sometimes she goes on and on, too much I feel, about Rachel's relationship with her roommate and her angst about it. It makes the book drag just a little as she keeps returning to the subject. My other problem is with the ending that others have labeled "shocking". With not going into details, I would have really liked to see that handled much differently than it was. It would not have hurt the book one bit. Otherwise a very good, plot twisting, seat of your pants ride. THANKS! Hope to read many, many more Rachel Morgan books.
Book Review: Questions remain... Summary: 4 Stars
Unfortunately, I ruined part of this for myself by reading about the next book on Amazon. So if you don't want to know what happens with Rachel and Kisten, don't do that! Overall, this was a solid entry in a series I love, though I don't think it was quite as good as the last one. There are a lot of surprises here, the first one coming immediately when Rachel wakes up in the process of being possessed by a demon... and it isn't Al for once. The characters continue to show growth, but I have to say that I was really disappointed in Trent. I was just getting used to thinking about him being a basically decent guy under the whole "running a drug cartel" thing when it turns out he's much, much worse than we thought. When this book ends, there's a fair amount of stuff that remains to be explained. There's been a big change in Rachel's world, and I can't wait to see how things shake out.
Book Review: Good book in the Hollows Series Summary: 4 Stars
For a Few Demons More is about the Cincinnati based bounty hunter and spell caster still possesses "the focus," a 5,000 year old demon crafted Were artifact. With the help of her pixie partner Jenks and the human Detective Glenn, Rachel must deal with demons, the elf Trent Kalamack, and master vampire Piscary. Along with angry Weres, they are all in a struggle for of the artifact. A serial killer is on the loose and Rachel's alpha werewolf pal, David, becomes the prime suspect of the FIB.
This book is another excellent story in the Hollows Series. Harrison continues to twist an entertaining tale. For some reason she continues to build more romance and sex into the series. The series must be written with a primarily female audience in mind.
Book Review: Someone, please stake Ivy. Summary: 3 Stars
All I can say, is the wrong vampire died. I'm sick of Ivy and the homoerotic references about the potential relationship between her and Rachel. As someone else stated, if I wanted to read lesbian erotica, that's what I'd buy.
I still like reading about Rachel Morgan though, despite one of my favorite characters being killed off. I assume it's so Rachel can meet someone else. Looking forward to reading about that, but still think Kisten could have been dealt with in a different way.
I think it would be more interesting if Ivy was killed and became a dead vampire and went all the way over to the dark side, the new Piscary. Then she and Rachel would have a new dynamic -- former best friends who become mortal enemies.
