This is a great book if you know about Zappa, or want to learn about him. Poddle play is comprehensive, going into detial about every album, almost every song, Zappa did until his 1993 death. Watson even covers the live work in this detail.
Watson does have a concept that is a little hard to follow. If I understand it right--and I am not sure I do--he takes Franks work and traces all the references in it to Western Art and politics. I have read the book cover to cover and I am not quite certian I totally grasp the thesis.
But even if this is not of interest to you, this is still a great reference guide to guide you through Zappa's massive body of work. If you have the Real Frank Zappa Book, fine, but Poddle Play is a lot more detailed about his material, and you need to get this as well.
