Book Reviews of Frugal Living for Dummies

Book Review: Just the information I needed to live more sensibly
Summary: 5 Stars

I have been a stay-at-home mom for the last three years, after working for 18 years and spending money foolishly. I am always looking for ways to cut corners and this book has been a God-send to me. My boys are 19 years apart and I was determined to find a way to raise this child myself without relying on daycare and after school care. Thanks to the tips in this book, we are able to afford for me to stay home, and the best part of it all is we are almost debt-free, we are eating much healthier foods, and I am finally learning how to appreciate the simple things in life without really feeling like I am losing out on anything. This book and the author's other resources have been inspiring me to do what really matters--being a loving wife, mother, daughter and friend to those I love.

Book Review: Disappointed Dummy, Deborah!
Summary: 2 Stars

As a veteran of the simple/frugal living movement, I pre-ordered this book in hopes that it would be chockful of fabulous new ideas! NOT! I was so disappointed because there is not one new or original idea in the entire book. It's just a compilation of common-sense money-saving ideas.

If you have never read a book on frugal or simple living, this book may be just what you need. It is a compilation of all the common shared knowledge for frugal living. If you have read about or researched or even jus thought about frugal and simple living, this book will be extremely boring. There was literally not one item in this book that I had not heard or thought of myself before.

Book Review: Great for those new to the lifestyle
Summary: 3 Stars

If you're new to frugal living then I'm sure this book will be of great help to you. I've been living a frugal lifestyle for a few years now and was hoping I might get a few new suggestions by reading this book but unfortunately I was wrong. I would recommend this book to those who are interested in saving a bit here and there. Frugality doesn't mean that you need to move to a teeny tiny apartment, clip coupons and eat rice for every meal. If you're looking to get out of debt or maybe try to simplify your way of living, this book would be a great start.

Book Review: Frugal Living For Dummies
Summary: 4 Stars

Deborah has done it again! Like her other books, this is a thoughtful, well-written guide by someone who knows what she's talking about.
This book will be especially useful for novices to frugality, and people looking for specific topics. Unlike the Tightwad Gazette, it is set out in a format which makes it very easy to find a quick reference. Old hands at frugality will find new ideas and information as well.
Buy this book to keep handy on your reference shelf. Buy copies for your newlywed friends, and university students, at the same time.

Book Review: Unless you are clueless about being frugal, don't bother
Summary: 2 Stars

I learned very little new information from the book. All it did is to confirm that I am frugal about most of my money spending decisions.. and I am not that frugal! The best price diary was the one helpful thing I am walking away with. But little else was new. On a positive note, I did enjoy reading the chapters about saving on groceries, but I am not sure how helpful the infromation will be considering I knew most of it and what I did and did not do to save money was a conscious decision on my part based on taste and convenience.
