Book Reviews of Gallows HillBook Review: Gallows Hill Summary: 5 Stars
Sarah Zoltanne is faced with some problems when she moves to Pine Crest. First she has no friends and second she can look in a crystal paperweight and see events in the future and is then labeled as a witch. Sarah was standing at her locker and Eric Garrett, the president of almost everything in the high school, went up to her and asked her if she wanted to be the fortuneteller in the Halloween carnival. She was almost ready to say yes until Eric told her that Kyra was going to be feeding her information about the people coming in. After the carnival Eric told Sarah that she was a big hit and asked her if she wanted to open a fortune telling business. For the business Kyra was not going to be feeding her information through a head set, instead she got pre-written papers to look off of. When people came in and got their fortunes told she told them the things on the paper from Kyra, that she had no way of knowing. When Misty Lamb went in she asked if her mother was going to leave her father, and when Sarah looked into the paperweight she saw her mother fall and then it happened and everyone assumed that Sarah made it happen so she was written off as a witch. A few weeks later she found a dead crow in her locker, and then she was invited to a party at Eric's house, but when she got in car to go to Eric's house they took her up to Garrett Hill. Once they were there she was tied up by some football players and was placed in a noose. Then, Charlie came and he hypnotized everyone to think that were from the Salem Witch Trials. When people started beating him up Ted came and broke everything up. After the event that night Sarah's mother decided to move back to Ventura. I really liked this book because it was a little creepy, but the people were really mean.
I liked this book because it was creepy. First, she sees Charlie fall on the steps and saw her mother in pain, and those events actually happened. Another creepy coincidence was that Cindy Morris had a doll named Dorcus and there was a woman who had a five-year-old named Dorcus that was sent to suffer horribly for being accused of being a witch. Another thing was that She had dreams about being on the shoulders of a man and watching people being hanged, and then she concluded that she was seeing visions through little Betty's eyes.
I did not like this book because the people were mean to Sarah. One of the meanest people was Eric Garrett, because he lied to Sarah and several other people. He lied to the Principle, Ted, Rosemary, and Sarah for his own purposes. Another person was Kyra because she was always mean to Sarah, and she helped plot against Sarah, but she never intended to hurt anyone. The worst people were the cheerleaders and the jocks, because they planned the party on Garrett Hill. They also were really planning to push Sarah of the stool and kill her.
This book also had a lot of disgusting parts and it also had a lot of. One nasty part was when Charlie had dead fish come out of his locker and his locker always smelled of rancid fish. Another part was when Sarah found a dead crow in her locker and she had to put it in a giant trash thing outside of the cafeteria, which smelled worse than the crow. Another part was when Rosemary dropped boiling spaghetti on herself and started to bake, and only ended up with serious burns on her arms.
I really liked this book even though it was creepy and the people were mean. I liked this book because it was creepy at some points. My least favorite part about it was that people were very mean to Sarah Zoltanne. Other parts I didn't like were the very disgusting parts. I would suggest this book to most people because it wasn't ultra scary, but it was still interesting and I had a very good time reading it.
Summary of Gallows HillRole-playing takes on a terrifying cast when 17-year-old Sarah, who is posing as a fortune-teller for a school fair, begins to see actual visions that can predict the future. Frightened, the other students brand her a witch, setting off a chain of events that mirror the centuries-old Salem witch trials in more ways than one.
