Book Reviews of Ghosts of Gettysburg: Walking on Hallowed Ground

Book Review: It's an ok book.
Summary: 3 Stars

After reading this book I've thought long and hard about writing this review. I know that there are going to be many that do not agree with me---but--then that's what a review is all about---a personel opinion. The following is mine. These comments aren't in any certain order--just what comes to mind.

First--the title. Seems to me that the title and format of the book is an exact copy of the Mark Nesbitt "Ghosts of Gettysburg" series. Could it be that Oester is trying to cash in on the very popular Nesbitt books?? Is he counting on folks seeing the title and not paying attention to the author's name?

Next--mistakes. There a a lot of small mistakes that I can overlook but two of the ones that I can't are: The battlefield hours ARE NOT as he listed. The park does indeed close at 7pm during the winter season but is OPEN till 10pm during the summer. I would hate to see people miss out on night enjoyment of the park because of this book.
Next---the building behind the Lightner B&B is NOT a barn. It is the original CARRIAGE HOUSE. The big 3 story barn that was there during the battle was torn down in the 1950's.

Oester seems to believe that he knows it all for ghost hunting and is always right. You don't agree with him and he says you are WRONG!!! This is the same group that a few years ago were saying ALMOST ALL orb pictures were spirits. Now he's changed his mind. Could he also be wrong on some of his ideas today?? Those of us that have been paranormal investigators for a long time KNOW that it's not an exact science and we all must remain open to change!!!!!!

To always stress that he "was the first" to do this and this seems to be a turn off to me but then again--that's my opinion.

Lastly---I really found the book a bit boring after awhile--it seemed to drag in some spots.

Some time back Oeter was in a real tussel with those plumber guys over at TAPS. Saying they were in it just for the money. Hundres of dollars for IGHS courses seems to me to be for the money too!!!

Well--that's it. Now I know that I'm going to hear from a lot of folks that disagree with me and that's ok. Those of us at Gettysburg Paranormal Society think there more than enough room for everyone in this wide open field!!!

Thanks for reading this and please remember--IT'S JUST MY THOUGHTS!!!!!

Summary of Ghosts of Gettysburg: Walking on Hallowed Ground

Ghosts of Gettysburg: Walking on Hallowed Ground is a keep-you-up-all-night book from real life master ghost hunters Drs. Dave and Sharon Oester, cofounders of the International Ghost Hunters Society, the largest ghost research society on the Internet.

Drs. Dave and Sharon Oester spend their time traveling the back roads of America, investigating some of its most haunted places. Over a six-year period, they explored and recorded the amazing ghostly experiences of visitors to the Gettysburg battlefield. One year they devoted a full month for battlefield investigations and drove over 1,000 miles on the battlefield gathering data for this book.

Drs. Dave and Sharon Oester were the first to hold ghost conferences in Gettysburg teaching about ghost photography and electronic voice phenomena known as EVP. Their annual ghost conferences started the ghost hunting movement in Gettysburg.

Drs. Dave and Sharon Oester share 40 haunted sites on the battlefield, not according to folklore, but from their own personal investigations using scientific tools to validate the existence of ghosts. Each haunted site contains a short history of its part in this three-day battle. Read about the ten most haunted Civil War hospitals sites that can be visited by the reader.
