Book Reviews of Giada's Family Dinners

Book Review: From Bad Cook to Good Cook
Summary: 5 Stars

I was possibly one of the worst cooks on the planet until I discovered Giada De Laurentiis and bought 'Giada's family dinners' book. It truly inspired me to enjoy not only the cooking but also the preparation of the food. It's georgously glossy with lots of lovely photos and the recipes are so simple to follow that I have so far failed to produce a disastrous result which in itself is a small miracle. All of the ingredients used are easily available. The suggested menus are also a great idea especially for someone who needs all the help I can get. One of my favourite recipes is the Lasagna Rolls and whoever heard of grilling lettuce? - but it works! I would also recommend Giada's "Everyday Italian" book for all the same reasons plus the fact that the Vodka Sauce is heavenly. Thank you Giada, I'm no longer scared of the kitchen!

Book Review: Giada's Dishes Taste As Delicious As They Look!
Summary: 5 Stars

Let me be the first to say that I am an accident waiting to happen around the kitchen. Nevertheless, when I saw the pictures of the foods that were described in the book, I decided to pick it up and give it a try.

Initially I was a bit intimidated by some of the recipes and ingredients. But Giada goes out of her way to lay out what you need and describes in detail how to make every single dish, sauce and desert.

So my wife and I picked a couple of recipies in the book and we were totally shocked. These dishes were the best Italian dishes I have ever had in my entire life. Giada knows her stuff!!

If her book can help a bumbler in the kitchen, her book can defintely help anyone interested in making some outstanding Italian dishes. THANKS GIADA!!

Book Review: Perfect again
Summary: 5 Stars

If you're looking for easy-to-make and relatively fast meals that taste great, you're in for a treat once again with Miss De Laurentiis' newest book. Of course, there are more refined, elaborate, and challeging Italian cookbooks out there, but if you don't want to spend all day in the kitchen yet turn out beautiful and delicious meals, try this. In my opinion, food for dinner with friends or family shouldn't be either demanding for the cook to create or intimidating for the guests to eat. Therefore, it's great for family meals as well as for entertaining. If you're looking to WOW your guests with all of the hours of work you put into a meal, try Charlie Trotter instead. If you're looking for time to spend enjoying your guests and diners who beg for your recipe, buy Giada's book.

Book Review: Fairly nice cookbook, terrible text
Summary: 3 Stars

This cookbook is a compilation of recipes from a chef's version of Italian cooking. It is often lighter on the fat and the tastes are good. Not really authentic Italian though. Using won ton noodles to make ravioli, come on. Homemade pasta dough is the easiest thing to make at home and the taste does not compare to anything ready made.

The text is terrible and difficult to follow. There are geographical errors and too many pictures of Giada, although she is attractive, I would prefer more pictures of the food and perhaps Italy.

If you are looking for authentic recipes I would recommend anything by Lidia Bastianich. Her cookbooks are wonderfull and her recipes will knock your sox off.

Book Review: Straordinario!
Summary: 5 Stars

I was a little skeptical about buying this book, because I do not care for her show on the Food network. I have tried several of the recipes, and they are to die for! The recipes are easy to cook. However, I do not believe in great tasting, fast Italian food - the average time for preparing and cooking most of the recipes is about an hour, some a little longer. I have yet to find any good Italian food made quick or on the cheap. Some of the best recipes are the Farmers pasta (kids love it), marinated zucchini and summer squash, stuffed artichokes, parmesan crusted pork chops, grilled portobello mushrooms, and many more. She even includes a recipe for bellinis! Now I plan to buy her other book, Everyday Italian.
