Book Reviews of God Gave Us ChristmasBook Review: You won't be disappointed Summary: 5 Stars
After reading God Gave Us Love, I was curious what Ms. Bergren would do with Christmas! Being my favorite holiday, I assumed I'd love or hate it. I was right. I loved it! The book, perfect for preparing children for the upcoming holiday and focusing on the true meaning behind it all, starts with a little cub asking, "Did Santa invent Christmas?"
Now, honestly, I read that and thought, "Oh no! I don't want to rehash the old `Santa vs. Jesus' thing. Fortunately, God Gave Us Christmas doesn't do that. Instead, the book is a delightful journey through the frozen tundra of the north to see the northern lights, the beauty of the glaciers, and a beautiful star. It's a reminder that God shows us every day, in a million little ways, that He is here with us, loves us, and has provided for our comfort and welfare.
God Gave Us Christmas is probably the best children's picture book I've seen on the subject of Christmas in a long time. Check it out. You won't be disappointed.
Book Review: Great Christmas Children's Book Summary: 4 Stars
God Gave Us Christmas, written by List T. Bergren and illustrated by David Hohn, is a children's book describing the importance of Christmas and what it truly means. The story is simple and easy to understand and I think children would understand the meaning very easily. The major plot involves a young polar bear asking her mother questions about Santa Claus, who in turn decides to take her daughter on a trip to understand the importance of Christmas, and in turn, God.
I found this book good to listen to, as my wife read it aloud to me and our puppy. Children's books are meant to be real aloud, after all. After leafing through the book myself, I find the drawings pretty and aesthetically pleasing. The only real problem was that I found some of the font color choices a bit hard to read at times (the black font on the deep blue/green sky was tough to make out, I thought), but this is easily overlooked. Overall, this is a great children's book to add to any Christmas collection.
Book Review: Excellent Christmas resource and reminder Summary: 5 Stars
This time of year can be meaningful as a time of remembrance of God's love for us. But, the message and the meaning can also get lost in the commercialism and materialism that surrounds the holiday as well. I am constantly looking for resources to reinforce the importance of the true meaning of Christmas. This book is an excellently designed to reinforce the fact that GOD gave us Christmas because of His love for us. I was at a mom's group yesterday evening where many moms discussed Santa Claus and how their family handled Santa. I loved the quote in this book where mama bear tells her cub, "Santa Claus reminds us about many good things like generosity and care. But it is God and Jesus that we celebrate most come Christmas. We always want to thank God for giving us Christmas."
The illustrations are captivating and beautiful. This book is a treasure that I hope to keep and read as a holiday tradition for a long time!
Book Review: cute children's story Summary: 3 Stars
The God Gave Us series of books are short children's stories that share a big message. Right now there are five books in the series: God Gave Us You, God Gave Us Two, God Gave Us Christmas, God Gave Us Heaven, and God Gave Us Love. Each book starts with Little Cub asking a question about something big, like who invented Christmas? Then she and her mom go on an adventure to find an answer to the question.
Each book is filled with pages of wonderfully drawn and colorful artwork. In fact, the artwork would convey a great story even without the words to explain it. Even though the artwork is high quality and the story is fun to read, it is the message of God's love that shines the brightest. As a parent, it is the biblical message that I love the most about these books.
If you are looking for a book that has a great message and is fun to read, pick up one of the God Gave Us books and you will not be disappointed.
