Book Reviews of God Gave Us You

Book Review: Wonderful Children's Inspirational Literature!
Summary: 5 Stars

Lisa Tawn Bergren's picture book God Gave Us You is a sweet story that helps children understand that they're a blessing, a gift from God to their parents. It helps explain in the most childlike way where babies come from.

This book is very well written and reading it to your child/ren will be sure to bond you even closer together. The illustrations are beautiful. The story itself is something special along the lines of Margaret Wise Brown's The Runaway Bunny (which is a classic in children's literature you should definitely read if you haven't already!) I have to admit, I like this story even better than the famous Miss Brown's because of the inspirational message within its pages.

I highly recommend this book and am so glad I had the opportunity to review it! I also recommend the sequel to God Gave Us You--God Gave Us Two. I'm sure you can imagine what that one's about!

The wonderful people at Waterbrook Multnomah provided me with a complimentary copy of this book for the purposes of this review. All views presented are my own.

Book Review: A beautiful answer; God Gave Us you!
Summary: 5 Stars

God Gave Us You is a beautiful moving story. The best children's book I have come across.

It begins with one simple question from a little cub "Mama, where did I come from?"

Mama Bear then begins to explain in a gentle loving way her progression of pregnancy up until the moment little bear was placed in her arms; each page ending with the beautiful answer of "God Gave Us You".

The use of the phrases such as "my special child", "even the angels celebrated for us", "we wouldn't trade you for the world", all reassure the child of how much she is truly loved.

My daughter is 3 years old and knows the words by heart, as do I. I could read it with my eyes closed, and often do.

I am so thankful to have found this book; a story both child AND parent will truly enjoy.

I HIGHLY recommend this book and the spin-offs. We also enjoy "God Gave Us Two", and "God Gave Us Christmas". LOVE!

Book Review: Love it love it love it

I can not explain the excitement in my heart when I saw that there were two more books in the God gave us....series listed for review!!! I LOVE these books!!!

In God Gave us You, mama bear explains to little bear how God gave her to them. It is a wonderful way to explain to your child how they came into the world at an age appropriate level. It is perfect for snugging with your little one and showing them how much they are loved!

I hope that you have purchased the other books in this series and will go out and purchase this one too!! You will not regret it. The illustrations are very well done and the story is clear and age appropriate and beautifully written.

I received a free copy of this book for review purposes from Waters Brook Press through their Blogging for Books program. Thanks!

Book Review: Book description not exactly accurate...Adoptive parents should avoid
Summary: 4 Stars

After reading the Amazon description for "God Gave Us You" and a few of the glowing reviews, we decided to purchase this book with the intent that it would be read to a child who was adopted. We thought it would be perfect focusing not on the physical pregnancy/birth aspect of things, but instead on the fact that children are given to their parents by God. This was our mistake, as the book mainly focuses on the pregnancy and subsequent delivery for the little bear.

While the book is a cute story and a nice read for small children to answer the question of "where did I come from?" physically, it would be totally inappropriate for an adoptive parent to read it to his or her child. We will eventually end up giving the book to another friend who does have biological children as it is still a nice story, just not at all what we expected. 4 stars is for the story itself, but the book description would get 1 star.

Book Review: Nice Pregnancy Primer for Toddlers :)
Summary: 4 Stars

If you're looking for a way to introduce your young child to the idea of children coming from somewhere other than the stork, one book with potential is *God Gave Us You* written by Lisa Tawn Bergren and illustrated by Laura J. Bryant.

In a nice, cute animal-character kind of way, this book explains that children are from God. Without getting into graphic details, it teaches kids that they grew inside their mommy's tummy and then came out when they were ready.

A good intro, but if the child is old enough or inquisitive enough, be prepared to answer the question about how the child gets in the mommy's tummy in the first place!

As for the artwork, it was beautifully done and complements the story very nicely.

For the record, Multnomah gave me a free copy of this book for review.
