Book Reviews of Godless: The Church of LiberalismBook Review: An Unsuccesful Attack on Evolution Summary: 1 Stars
This book isn't really an attack on the liberal worldview. It's an attack on evolution. No less than four of the book's chapters directly try to refute it; the other chapters mostly attempt to support the "evolution causes atheism (and/or liberalism) which causes immoral behavior" criticism of evolution, by giving us the alleged evils "liberals" d.
The problem is that Coulter swallows hook, line, and sinker all the creationist propaganda against evolution and merely re-states it, despite this criticism having been refuted numerous times. For example, quite apart from all the inaccuracies in her portrayal of liberals, she doesn't seem to realize her "evolution causes liberal beliefs which causes immoral behavior" argument would be irrelevant to the *truth* of evolution, even if true. Her other anti-evolution arguments (she serves up--again--the old "there are no transitional fossils", "evolution cannot create any new information", and "some biological systems are irreducibly complex" arguments) are as accurate, which is to say, not at all.
Coulter being Coulter, her particular presentation of the anti-evolution arguments are couched in crude, insulting language, and is even more inacurrate than other creationist propagana (which is saying something). One of her "proofs" that evolution is wrong starts with, "cosnider a cosmic hamster whose flatulence had..." need I go on? But despite this annoying characteristic of her writing getting all the attention, what really matters is that her anti-evolution arguments are stale and false--irregardless of how crudely or insultingly she puts them. She's just wrong; that she's insulting and unfair as well is another, less important, issue.
Book Review: Brainless Summary: 1 Stars
If you believe in truth , fairness, balance, objectivity , there's nothing here for you, move on.According to Ms Coulter
1) The Republicans have all enacted successful policies, the Democrats have screwed up everything, and where they haven't its because they inherited the others work(e.g. 9/11 happened because Bill Clinton didn't act on the evidence he had).
2)Ms Coulter goes after the people the Democrats put up to state their case who cant be touched or criticized. e.g. The widows/mother of the people who died in 9/11.She then proceeds to accuse these women of all sorts of things(like they did it for the publicity, money, they took so much pleasure grieving for their husbands deaths) while repeating that nobody is allowed to criticise them. Leading to the obvious inference Ann Coulter = nobody.
3) According to Coulter nobody is allowed to criticise schools/teachers either. So nobody i.e. Ms Coulter, than proceeds to do exactly that including bringing out statistics to number of children abused by school teachers v/s number of children abused by priests. I'm not sure what she wanted to prove there.
4) Ms Coulter attacks evolution relentlessly. She evidently believes that attacking Evolution proves that Intelligent design or Creationism must be correct(a false dichotomy). She says that Darwin made a statement that shows that evolution can never be disapproved, and how theories that cant be disapproved aren't science and then proceeds to write four chapters trying to disprove evolution. Which is it Ms Coulter?
The sad bit is, this book is a bestseller.
Book Review: Great Writer Summary: 5 Stars
I know a lot of people only know Ms. Coulter from watching her on TV, but they can't really understand her popularity until they've read her books.
When I read the first chapter of "Godless", it was a general litany of political points and thought she had lost her touch, but upon further reading I was again astonished at her knowledge and insight.
In a world where the politicians, media and college professors write history, Ann again goes behind the superficial and politically motivated arguments and proclamations to bring facts and analysis to the subject at hand and exposes the falseness of much "conventional wisdom."
From the public school system to the Willie Horton matter to the debate on evolution vs. creationism she goes beyond the typical and predictable public discourse to bring real light on the subject.
I know a lot of people don't like her because of her politics and her sardonic wit, but beneath the bluster exists an insightful and penetrating mind that goes beyond what is being fed to us through the media and "education" establishment.
The last several chapters in this book, which discusses the evolution/darwinism vs. creation argument should be read by everyone, including the courts. You'd see how facile and stupid the current discussion on the subject is, and what science has to say on the subject, which will surprise most everyone. For that subject alone, this book is well worth the price of admission.
Book Review: A Thorn in Their Flesh Summary: 4 Stars
Ann's new book, Godless: The Church of Liberalism, proves to the liberal elitists in this country that her wit is just as sharp as her tongue. Ann continues to be a thorn in their flesh, which is something I have always liked about her. Throughout this book, she slams liberals and their religion of Humanism with its fundamental doctrines of Darwinism, moral relativism and socialism. Through their control of public schools, entertainment and the news media, liberals have been indoctrinating Americans for 50 years with their Humanist ideology. I would have preferred Ann taking a clearer stand against Darwinism though she does an excellent job of reporting how the whole evolution propaganda machine got started. It just seems to me some Christians feel it's necessary to accommodate the Bible with Darwin in some small way. I don't. Ann, please ask yourself this question: if the Lord Jesus could leave His home in Heaven, become a man, die on the cross for our sins and rise from the grave so we can have eternal life, why is so hard to believe the same Lord Jesus created the world as we know it in six, 24-hour days? Please think about it.
Because her book delves into both public education and religion, I can suggest several other books on the same topics, including The Harsh Truth About Public Schools, The Deliberate Dumbing Down of America, Legally STUPiD: Why Johnny doesn't have to read, Public Schools Against America: The Hidden Agenda, and None Dare Call it Education.
Book Review: Ann Coulter - Amerika's Blessing!! Summary: 5 Stars
Thank you, Ann, for having the courage to stand up to shameless, opportunistic liberals like the 9/11 widows, using their grief as a platform to criticize the failures of the military and Bush on that tragic day, and for taking on Max Cleland, a man who clearly exploits the loss of both of his legs and one arm in Vietnam to further the left's devilish political agenda. Your position defies compassion and sanity and I think I speak for all of Amerika when I say THANK YOU for presenting blatant right-wing extremism as a moderate viewpoint! THANK YOU for convincing us that all media is the product of liberal fanatics intent on destroying Amerika and is attacking us from places that we don't even know about. If Bill O'Reilly, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and your other cohorts hadn't scared my completely uninformed, willfully ignorant, and intellectually lazy ass so badly, I don't know if I would have EVER decided to give Fox News a try! Thank you for providing me with your fair and balanced views. I can feel confident in my utter refusal to take the time and effort necessary to develop an informed political opinion by simply listening to you - I am convinced!! Why on earth would you lie to me??!! Actually researching any issue is a liberal ploy to DESTROY AMERIKA!!! Thank you for your contribution to the acceleration of intellectual negligence throughout this great country! I love you, Ann!!!! GOD BLESS AMERIKA!!!!
