Book Reviews of Golden Tarot Deck

Book Review: Just edges are gilded
Summary: 4 Stars

I find this deck very easy to read though it is hard to shuffle. I took another reviewer's advice and limbered the cards over the edge of my table to make them more flexible during shuffling. This has helped some. The card stock out of which the deck is made is thicker than other cards which makes the cards stiffer and the deck harder to handle since the whole deck is deeper and hard to get your hand around, and I have larger hands. This said the artwork is lovely.

I was expecting to see gilt on the front of the card too, to some extent, which it is not. Only the outside edges of the cards are gilted and lovely, but on the face or back, the "gold" is really just yellow printing.

I'll let the other reviewers say the rest. I do like this deck. It seems to convey deep spiritual meaning, especially from the Majors. The minors are enough like Rider Waite that reading is fairly easy.

Book Review: Excellent deck
Summary: 5 Stars

I just recently bought the deck and my first response is wow. The deck is extremely beautiful and brings the reader both into something very contemporary (what they are dealing with now) and deep into the past (when the deck was made). I found the deck to be both easy to read, yet filled with symbolism. I've already done a reading with them for a friend of mine and it was to the point. One customer was put off by the fact that the author prefers to use them for her personal insight. The author wasn't making an insult about those who do, but rather was showing her own personal use. If I understand her, she uses them like Jung did, to tap into the archetypes of the ages. Evem though that's her personal use of the cards, I find the cards have an universal appeal. Despite what was her personal use of the cards, even though my reading was "of the fortune telling persuasion" I felt it was dead on.

Book Review: Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful
Summary: 5 Stars

This was my first Tarot deck, and it is definitely my favorite. The cards follow the Rider Waite symbolism, but I find them much richer and informative than a Rider Waite deck. Each card is a meticulous collage of medieval and renaissance art. That necessarily means that there is some heavy Christian symbolism. For some people, that will be a big selling point; for others, it's not so appealing. For me personally, the art itself is so opulent and compelling that the Christian overtones are very secondary. The cards themselves are a nice size on heavy cardstock and feel good in your hand.

The guide that comes with the deck is brief but very instructional. My major complaint is that it lists the minor arcana out of order - swords, wands, cups coins? Reversals are barely addressed.

Book Review: This deck's so pretty
Summary: 4 Stars

I have been following the Golden Tarot online before, and when I have finally decided to get my first tarot deck, I chose Golden Tarot. After I got the real deck, I was a bit surprised to see how "shallow" the images are because there seemed to be a lack of sense of space in the images. But afterall, they are made from collages of many other paintings. All in all, I am happy with the deck because the images are really pretty and they convey very deep meanings behind.
About the booklet, it provides basic and adequate information and instructions for the deck, but half of it was in fact references to all the painting images the author has used. If you would like a more in-depth tarot book for beginning learning tarot, you'd probably need to get another book instead of relying on the booklet in the package.

Book Review: Beautiful and Interesting Deck
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this tarot deck some time ago now, but that doesn't diminish the fact that I found Kat Black's Golden Tarot Deck to be visually stunning. This is, by far, my personal favorite of the decks that I own. Each individual card, in and of itself, is an artistic composition that offers a unique and insightful interpretation of the tarot. The time invested by Ms. Black as she compiled the images used in her various collages was time well spent. There is a certain feel, a warmth, that is consistant throughout the deck thus serving to unite the individuals into an entirely thought provoking presentation of the tarot. I highly recommend this deck to anyone with preexisting knowledge and/or interest in the tarot. And, anyone with an interest in fine art or art history would find this deck appealing as well.
