Book Review: More of a drumbeat than a narrative

This is a compendium of crime. I am in no position to evaluate the truth of all that, but as a reading experience this book falls short. There is no narrative thread. There are no characters around which you can organize your emotions, so the whole thing is ultimately heartless. I like the punchy writing style. There is a breathlessness that seems appropriate to the subject matter and to the feeling of sick indignation that I would guess Saviano is trying to give the reader. But apart from brief moments like his adventure as a longshoreman early on, it's just a lot of name-dropping.Book Review: Gomorrah

This book covers an important topic, the Naples mafia, but is actually quite badly written. It was originally written in Italian which may be the more compelling version. This translation is not very gripping, the language is euphemistic and it is hard to see how the author could require police protection on the basis of this book. The review in The Economist hinted at a much more gripping read. Nevertheless, it does infer the existence of an import industry that avoids taxes and provides a European link for cheaply produced Chinese goods in Naples.Book Review: A great book that speaks the truth!!

I lived here around the area of Naples for 10 years(parents are italian), and came back back after 11 years due to military...what the writer has said in the book, it's all true. When i would tell my husband, he didn't believe everything i told him, but after living here & reading the book, he now knows & believes me!! Great book, i suggest that others read it. But i also want to say to others, because of this, DON'T BE AFRAID OF COMING TO NAPLES. It is still a beautiful city with some great people!!Book Review: I Could Not Put It Down!

Gomorrah is not a book I would buy or pick off the library shelf as this is not the type of book I read, but it was placed in my hands and I am very glad it was. Author, Roberto Saviano has a way with words that at times sound like poetry.
A dark nonfiction account of Naples organized crime system -I could not put it down!

Excellent book of the Mafia (Camorra) of Naples and Campania Italy. It tells the real story of the complete rule of the Camorra in the, use to be most beautiful, State of Campania, Italy and how they have destroyed it with toxic waste and a takeover of most all business and many city councils. The truth is seen today as the streets in Naples and all of Campania are full of trash and the toxic waste has increased the cancer rate in Campania.
