Book Review: Beautiful images and a lifestyle reflected in pictures and notes

When I ordered this book I did not know what to expect. I knew that it was a collection of Hunter S. Thompsons assorted junk - pictures, drawings, notes... I admit that I am a huge fan of Hunter's work and I read every single book out there. And this book you can't read really. There are several old letters photocopied in this book and that's basically it for the readable part. The pictures, however, are absolutely beauiful. They are arranged chronologically and if you have read some of the Thompson books you will recognize a lot of things you have read about. A little extra that really gave me goosebumps are the few original notepad sheets in this book. Some of the little papers which were written in Las Vegas in April 71 may not be easy to descipher but they deliver a feeling of style and gonzo that cannot be matched by anything printed in set-font words. I hoped for a little more content to be honest but as a collector and admirer of Thompsons work I am glad to have bought this!Book Review: Box? Picture? Individually Numbered?

The review for this stated, "..this extraordinary package includes a specially designed box that contains the book and a limited edition gallery-quality photograph by Thompson. ...offering of only three thousand individually numbered copies available worldwide..." This was a gift for my wife: A huge Gonzo Fan, alomst of mythical proportions. Not too sure what happened to the box it was supposed to come in, or the Gallery-quality photgraph for that matter. Couldn't find anything indivually numbered except each page. Kinda like any book. However....Got her this and a Bukowski piece and Bukowski lays forgotten and she loves Gonzo. It is a beautiful book that inspires joy and laughter in someone who I know would have left me for Hunter in a heartbeat.Book Review: great book, but poor quality

I gave this two stars not because it's a bad book, but because the quality of it was awful-- I ordered this as a gift for my brother, and when it arrived the cover had clear plastic cracks/bubbles in it, so I requested an exchange and carefully described the defects in the cover. Well, a few days later Amazon sent me another copy, only the cover on this one looked 10 times worse than the first one. When I contacted customer service about the problem, I was told that they couldn't guarentee the quality of the book at this time and couldn't promise to send me another copy with a perfect cover. I got this for a gift a year ago and it is a brilliant well made book. If you a fan of Hunter S. Thompson you will love this and if you do love this book I have some other reading suggestions for you:
"Gonzo" by Jann S. Weener & Corey Seymour
That too also has a introduction by Johnny Depp
and "The Gonzo Way" (Coffee table book) by Anita Thompson (Hunter's former wife)
This is one of the greatest journalists that ever walked in the shadow and light on this Earth. This is a wonderful book.
Book Review: Rather Disappointing

I love HST as much as anybody, but this book is an overpriced waste of space. It does contain some interesting pictures, but that's about all it has going for it. Interspersed among the photos are some quotes by HST in big fonts that take up an entire page. If you have read HST's books or anything about him, there is really nothing new or interesting here. Save yourself some money and flip through this one in your local book shop.... 10 minutes and you're done. There is absolutely no reason to actually BUY it.
