Book Reviews of Good Eats: The Early YearsBook Review: Good Eats In Your Hands Summary: 5 Stars
This book is a must have for any fan of the Food Network show Good Eats. The show mixes part science, part comedy, part cooking all together and comes up with a show that is both entertaining and educational. The book captures the essence of the show and is quite impressive to look at. One valid complaint that people may have is that it is light on the recipes compared to what it could have been. It would have been nice if each episode entry contained all the recipes featured in that show (although you can go to the Food Network website and get the recipes, it would be nice to have them at your fingertips). Putting that issue aside, this book is a great read and extremely entertaining. Alton Brown has already said there will be more volumes in the series chronicling all the episodes and I, for one, can't wait.
Book Review: Not just a cookbook! Summary: 5 Stars
After reading the other reviews here I just had to add my two cents worth.
I LOVE this book. Have had it for 3 days and have barely put it down! What I love is that this does include all those little informational tidbits we've gathered over the years of watching the show, but now it's written down so I can go back and look at the information and apply it to other recipes I may be working on. Yes, the order does differ from other cook books- salads/desserts/soups aren't grouped by type of food, but there is an INDEX.
I have adopted so many of Alton's recipes as my own "signature" dishes it is fantastic having them all in one polace and in a beautiful book to boot. I will be getting this for several people for Christmas gifts this year and can't wait for volumes 2 & 3 to come out.
Book Review: Great Gift for Alton Brown Addicts & Foodies Summary: 4 Stars
If you are a fan of Alton Brown and his detailed food information and trivia, you will love this book. It is organized by episode with all the great information he provides in each of his shows. It is a huge book with volumes and volumes of information. My husband sat down and read it like a book, not a cookbook when I gave it to him. This is a great companion to the episodes and a superb reminder of all those facts and details you wish you could remember when you watch the show. My only complaint is that I wish there were a list of the recipes in the book you could quickly scan when you are looking for something. A great gift for all Alton Brown addicts and foodies.Good Eats: The Early Years
Book Review: An Amazing Book with A Lot to Offer for Everyone Summary: 5 Stars
Not only does A.B. recap recipes from his show, "Good Eats", but in some cases, he improves on them based on his ever growing and evolving breadth of experience. The volume is expertly written, packed with fun (and useful) factoids. Adding to the entertainment value of the book is the endless stream of show production stories and photos--something that die hard fans delight in, and the newcomer can still enjoy and laugh at.
If you liked this book, I strongly encourage you to pick up "The Middle Years". It is also wonderfully clever and pun-ishing. Certainly worth its weight in gold.
Good Eats 2: The Middle Years
Book Review: Wow! Alton Rocks! Summary: 5 Stars
I won't go into a detailed description of this book, as others here have done a good job. I just want to share my enthusiasm for this entertaining, informative and eminently readable cookbook. If you've ever watched a Good Eats episode, the background information provided here is priceless. If you have not - then you have a new item on your to-do list and a great treat in store.
In either case, this is a collection of excellent recipes, fascinating food information and trivia and a source of ongoing entertainment from both a literary and gustatory viewpoint. Alton is a veritable encyclopedia of food facts and his dry, wry and somewhat skewed sense of humor makes it a must read for any foodie.
