Book Review: Green Smoothies are the Key to Optimal Health

This book by Victoria Boutenko reveals how incorporating daily green smoothies into her diet was the missing link to remaining on and maintaining her raw living foods lifestyle that saved her and her familys' lives. The edible raw green leafy plants growing all around us contain the life giving nutrition that other food sources lack either in quantity or not at all. Raw edible green leafy plants can be combined with any almost other types of food and will provide the needed enzymes for digestion that other foods may lack. Most adults ideally should consume about two bunches of raw edible leafy greens a day for optimal health. Green leafy plants are very hard to chew to break open the fiberous cells to receive the nutrition locked inside, basically we need to chew them about 40 or more times to make them into a pulp that will release their nutrition. So Victoria discovered that breaking the leafy greens fiberous cells with a blender and combining them with sweeter fruits or vegetables made the green smoothies tasty and easy to consume. She discovered she could consume any amount of greens her body needed. Using this discovery she helped others to do the same and helped them to nourish their bodies to better health. This book should be a companion to anyone desiring to change their livestyle to a more raw living foods lifestyle, because green smoothies are a very big key to optimal health.

Book Review: Green Smoothies changed my life!
Summary: 5 Stars

Because of this book, I was inspired to start drinking Green Smoothies. I had been battling chronic fatigue syndrome for over 7 years. The combination of eliminating processed sugars, eliminating wheat, and drinking Green Smoothies "cured" me. My husband got his wife back and my kids got their mom back.

The book explains why we need more dark green leafy vegetables in our diet, how to make the greens taste better (Green Smoothies of course), and what health changes you can expect after drinking them.

I was especially impressed with the information on how much protein is in dark green vegetables.

When I say this book changed my life I have to add that not only was it the missing "key" where my cure for chronic fatigue was concerned... I also got a new job because of this book! In the book she recommends using a Vita-Mix machine to process the greens. When I watched a local Vita-Mix demonstration, I said to myself, "I could do this", and long story short... I am now a very happy and fulfilled Vita-Mix show demonstrator!

Whether you want to become an "all raw foodist" or you just want to find an enjoyable way to increase the amount of raw fruits and vegetables in your diet, I HIGHLY recommend, "Green For Life".


Book Review: Must read--will change your life

I have been juicing every single day for over a year and finally talked my husband into buying a Vitamix which I had heard wonderful things about. First of all for those who don't think a Vitamix is worth the money obviously haven't tried it. (I use it for far more than smoothies by the way). Anyway, I was eager to learn more about the wonderful smoothies it created and while searching around found this book. We belong to a farmers co-op in the summer where we get locally grown vegetables, many of them greens like kale that I always knew were good for me but ran out of things to do with. That is the reason I bought the book. It isn't necessarily "scientific" as some pessimists point out in their review but it seems pretty sound to me. It is especially interesting to learn of the acid and alkaline information which turned me on to those books. I think it is a very important read. I am not going to suddenly subsist on a smoothie only diet but am happy to switch from the pain in the neck cleaning out of a juicer every day to the blender version which keeps all the important fiber and nutrients that are extracted by a juicer. A juice didn't fill me up whereas the smoothies with all the fiber definitely do. I will be incorporating more greens into my life wherever I can.

Book Review: Green Smoothies get rid of junk food cravings!!!

What a wonderful book! For the past 20 years I've been on a quest to eat more natural foods,and my health improved drastically. But I still suffered from junk food cravings...until I discovered Green for Life!

Following Victoria's advice, I added lots of GREENS to my fruit smoothies, and the first day I did so MY FOOD CRAVINGS STOPPED. Bang. Just vanished. Just like my brain's "cravings switch" was flipped to the OFF position. Apparently my body had been craving minerals all those years, and once I started eating GREENS the cravings stopped. And I'm finally trimming down!

Victoria's research in this area is much needed, and much appreciated. I especially love the chapter on the chimpanzees and their daily eating habits.

My wife and I participated in one of Victoria's Green for Life teleconferences, and we loved it. She speaks from her heart, is really a nice lady, and this was one of the best conferences ever. We love Victoria! And we sure love the changes that are happening in our bodies!

Get this Green for Life book, make yourself some green smoothies, and watch your food cravings vanish. This is the secret to losing weight! :)

I came upon the idea of Green Smoothies before hearing of this book. I had read Harvey Diamond"s book Fit For Life Not Fat For Life and Joel Fuhrman"s Eat to Live, and was sold on the idea and importance of getting alot of Greens in the diet, but didn't relish the notion of eating tons of salad everyday. Thus the idea of green smoothies was born, and they have been a fantastic boost to health and wellbeing. Have lost 10 pounds in three weeks without trying, and as others have stated I have lost a lifelong junkfood addiction.
This book is a great motivator on the need for more greens in the diet and for an introduction to green smoothies, but I think it is far too rigid and limited in it application. I make Veggi-Green smoothies using greens, fruits, frozen fruits, frozen peas,broccoli, green beans, mushrooms, beets, celery, ect. You can use a base of V8, Pineapple juice halfnhalf with water,soymilk, ricemilk, nutmilk,ect. I add a Vegan protein powder for after workouts and it packs a nutritional punch that can't be touched by Store powders. Also you don"t need a $400.00 mixer to make green smoothies. Any ice crushing blender will work great, with 600 watters going for $50.00 to $75.00 being ideal. Think outside the box.
