Book Reviews of Green for Life

Book Review: With a grain of salt
Summary: 3 Stars

This book is valuable, and has a simple message: incorporate greens by mixing with fruits and blending them together to make smoothies.
The problem with it is it keeps making outlandish remarks backed with little more than the author's word. For instance, it says green smoothies will at the same time increase the acidity in your stomach so you digest food better, and will also decrease the acidity in your blood and keep you at a good alkaline pH. Green smoothies will strengthen your teeth and nails, give you more energy, and help you sleep better.
And all from the observation that we should eat more like chimpanzees. Why not adopt some of their other customs then?

Also bear in mind that this is a book by a raw foodist, and raw foodists are probably its main audience. There is a feeling of enthusiasm in the book (and in many of the reviews here), almost an extremism about food.
That said, I do like the idea of green smoothies, and I'll keep making them. But they haven't given me superpowers just yet. Read with caution.

Book Review: Green for Life is the key for a successful raw food diet!
Summary: 5 Stars

At 61 years old I had developed a number of cronic health problems that could not be reversed with conventional medicine. Five months ago my wife and I (after much research) started on an organic raw food diet to improve our health. Fortunately one of the first books we purchased was 12 Steps to Raw Foods, because the "green smoothies" that Victoria writes about are packed with nutrition and completely eliminate the cravings for junk food. The results of this diet are truly asounding even miraculous! These are the conditions that are now completely gone: Migrain headaches, arthritis in my hands, sleep apnea and tendenitis. My triglycerides have dropped from 2000 to 245, my blood pressure is down to 102/68 and my cholesterol is 110. In the process I have lost 30lbs and am still losing 6-7lbs/mo. With all of my "itises" gone I am able to lift weights and run again. We will never go back to the old way of eating. Victoria's new book, Green for Life, has added greatly to our "smoothy" recipies and new valuable information for our new lifestyle.

Book Review: Simple but utterly profound
Summary: 5 Stars

In this book, Victoria Boutenko explains why eating raw greens is so important. Although nutritional recommendations often seem to shift with the winds, one consistent and clear piece of advice has always been to eat lots of those leafy green vegetables -- filled with phytonutrients, vitamins, minerals, amino acids, etc. The big problem, of course, is that these foods are often not too palatable unless smothered in fat-laden, salty, or otherwise dubious dressings. What if there were a way to eat your greens and actually enjoy the experience? That is what this book offers. I have followed the recipes and enjoyed almost all of them (there was one clinker), and I have enjoyed real health benefits from eating my greens. It's clear from the study that she describes (with detailed information about the experiences of the study participants) that I'm not alone in finding great benefit from her green smoothies. I recommend this book to everyone. It is truly a book that will help everyone who follows its advice.

Book Review: A true pearl in the Raw Movement
Summary: 5 Stars

I have to say that the reviewers comments below is not one that is Accurate or Fair. This book is in no way selling or recommending any product(s)!

I've read this book and given copies to friends and family. The book is filled with facts about green smoothies that is absolutely incredible.
Victoria has poured lots of research into presenting a great testament to the benefits of green smoothies.

While most of these smoothies are made from kale, spinach, dandelion, or chard, they are incredibly delicious. The results of drinking these smoothies, can be seen and felt. Victoria clearly does not claim to be anything other than a researcher. But to her credit she has taken her family to new health heights and offers readers the same opportunity.

Having just attended a presentation by Victoria where covers much of the material in this book, I can say that she is living proof of being Green for Life!

This book will be (and is already) a classic!

Book Review: Waste of Money
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought this book seeking a mine of recipes that would allow me to incorporate green smoothies into my life with ease. What I received instead was a book full of "facts" about how nutrition science is a joke, dubious testimonials regarding the author's expertise on the subject, and then way at the end, a few recipes for smoothies.

I'm not sure why the author felt the need to justify why green smoothies are so healthy. The logic stands for itself: their ingredients are essentially superfoods. What could be better for you?

A better book would have condensed the rationale for green smoothies into a brief introduction, and then provided the reader with a plethora of delicious recipes with which to experiment.

As the book is, however, I am disappointed. I will be reselling my copy on amazon.

Update: I understand the author's new book on green smoothies includes more recipes. Rather than buy this one, try that one instead.
