Book Review: Good but slightly out of date

Studying for the FCC license, I looked for a simple manual to learn theory, techniques and regulations . I have always liked books in the "for dummies" series. I was able to find almost everything I needed to learn what I wanted to know with a minimum effort. I would have preferred to have a copy of the regulation included in the apendex, but the reference to the web included is easy to use. I will now use this book for continued reference, and advanced licenses.

Ham Radio for Dummies is an excellent choice as a starting point for the person interested in ham radio. It covers just about any ham radio activity possible and explains them in just enough technical language to be understood. The engineering is left out!! Everything from antennas to equipment purchases is covered. I have been a ham since 1968, and I still found this book of interest. I learned quite a bit about the newer digital modes being used on the air.Book Review: Very good primer

I bought this book just to see if ham was something I'd be interested in as a hobby. After reading this, and the technician licensing book put out by the ARRL, I had no problem passing my first exam and getting my license. The author also gives many website links throughout the text that are helpful in finding more free information.
Overall though, I'd say this is a good starter book, if you just want to find out what amateur radio is all about.

A fairly good book for "newbies" I've actually had it for sometime. Ham Radio definitely triumps during disaster and this book will get you the basics in clear, concise terms to help get you on the air and talking to folks all over the entire world!!! My Fiance is even interested in ham radio now!! Look me up when you get your ticket,

Book Review: What a great book!

This is a great book and I recommend also buying it with Now You're Talking! by Larry D. Wolfgang is a great combination. this give you a great understanding of the whole filed and the Now You're Talking will get you to pass the test!
