Book Reviews of Handbook of Knots: EXPANDED EDITIONBook Review: Great Portable Knotting Book Summary: 5 Stars
This is an excellent book. It's small 100ish knots and pocket size make it extremely portable. This is in contrast to another great knotting tome such as, Clifford Ashley's "Ashley Book of Knots" which is the definitive work on the subject. Which is large and heavy and very expensive. This book is a great value being in full color and it's jam packed with info for each knot. I particularly like the section on whippings that includes sewing palms. I've been a teacher of knots to scouts know for over twenty years and this is what I'd recommend to a young tenderfoot or second class scout if he was interested in learning more than the 10 required knots for 1st class rank.
Book Review: Handbook of Knots is Excellent Summary: 5 Stars
This is easily the best book I've seen on the subject, especially considering it's size. (Okay, so I only recall three or four.) I know a few knots, variations and principles that could be added, some discovered previously, some stimulated by the book. Hopefully the next edition will have more, as mine had more than the copy I got from the library. The range of possible knots is basically infinite and I find the subject more interesting than any kind of puzzles I know of.

Book Review: Great and Easy to Understand Summary: 5 Stars
When I got this book, I was looking for a book that covered a good variety of knots, had easy, understandable instructions, and had very clear pictures - not drawings, and this book is exactly that. Not only was I impressed, but my entire family was extremely impressed with how easy it is to understand this book! The pictures are very, very clear, and the instructions are very easy to understand. I honestly don't think you could "out-do" this book in how the instructions are presented.
Book Review: good illustrations, but missing some important knots Summary: 3 Stars
Bought this book for my course library (I am a wilderness instructor for Outward Bound). Realized too late that it does not include the taut line hitch or the trucker's (wagoneer's) hitch, both of which we use a lot. I would have thought those would be included in any good knots book. Ultimately replaced it with "The Book of Knots: How to Tie 200 Practical Knots" by Budworth & Dalton. Good illustrations a better selection of knots.
Book Review: easy to follow - an excellent book Summary: 5 Stars
Pawson's _Handbook of Knots_ is indespensible to the marlinspike sailor, and a useful tool for those who just want to know more about ropework. The book is organized by type of knot (stopper knots, binding, bends, hitches, loops, plaits and sennits) and has quite a bit about rope care, use, and splicing. The diagrams are simple and the instructions easy to follow. Highly recommended.
