Book Reviews of Handwriting of the Famous and Infamous

Book Review: What ever happened to great Penmanship?
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a very interesting book for anyone who appreciates penmanship.
This book has a bit of everything in it and gives pretty much an overview.If you are deeply into handwriting analysis,I doubt that it would be of great interest.It touches on many examples to look for and gives indications of what those characteristics or clues mean when trying to analyze the writer's personality.However;it is rather scanty and by no means a textbook to become an expert.
It covers only 75 famous and infamous people with examples of mainly letters written by them.Along with each personn,there is a brief paragraph on each of these following personality traits;
Personality overview
Relationships
Intellectual forces
Physical drives
and
Motivating forces.
Inthe case of each person,a couple of things are commented in the writing and attempts made to co-relate the characteristics of the writing with the person's personality.
The thing that I found most interesting was that beautiful ,actually highly disciplined,elegant handwriting that was prelevant in the 15,16,17,18,19 and early 20th centuries has become a thing of the past.It seems that anyone with any amount of higher education developed what we would consider amazing high qualities.This is evident in almost anything one comes across in historical letters,documents,and even something as mundane as ship passenger lists,cargo manifests,land deeda,wills,and even lists of groceries or supplies. It seems that every clerk had excellent handwriting. But not anymore.Why?If the handwriting of the or famous people today were to be shown to the signers of the Declaration of Independence,they would probalbly feel that they belonged to a bunch of farm hands or construction workers.
Even this cursory look at handwriting tends to make one think that there are probably things that are a reflection of their personalities. Certainly, the samples of Stalin,Hitler,Ted Bundy,reflect their harsh personalities;and those of Catherine the Great,Elizabeth I,and Queen Victoria fall in a hugely different category than musicians and artists like John Lennon and Kurt Cobain.Generally, the handwriting of most of these people seem to fit their personality;but some are very surprising such as,William Faulkner or Bill Clinton.It is also not surprising that contemporary Civil War Generals,Ulysses s, Grant and Robert E. Lee are really quite similar.Princess Diana's handwriting seem to be what you would expect as does that of Mother Teresa.The handwriting of Emily Dickson seems to be something as unbelievably different from anything mundane, and suits her to a tee.I suppose the handwriting that seems totally removed from its personality is that of Ronald Reagan;which looks what one would expect was from a grade schooler.
As I read through this book;I felt it would have been interesting if the author had included a selection of handwriting examples and have the reader attempt to associate them with a list of personalities.If anyone has seen such a book,I would be interested.
