Book Review: Cuba without the crisis
Summary: 2 Stars
I thought "Stallions Gate" was one of the best books I ever read. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for this book even though I have always liked the character of Arkady. It can't be the shift to warmer weather when the typically morose detective can't generate more than a yawner of a climax to the who (or why) done it. Choose this one if your main interest is a current description of the sites and sounds of Havana.Book Review: Very good book

I'm cuban myself, and I was glad to find how the author got deep in the hidden Havana, the one you can barelly see if you visit it in a tourism package.
I'd strongly recommend this book to any person, and if planning to visit Cuba, I'd recommend even more, so your trip will be more enjoyable.
Cubans reading the book will share a laugh or two, that's guaranteed, the author captured very well some cuban stereotypes.

Martin Cruz Smith delivers the gold. Mr. Smith needs to be bronzed and erected in permanance. He is a craftsman of words, not unlike Billy Faulkner and George Orwell. Brilliant tome and one cannot begin to marvel about it's glory without pausing for deep breaths. Inhale this fragrant pile of words, hold it deep within your lungs, and exhale slowly into the mouth of a loved one.Book Review: Havana Bay

or have ever been to Cuba. While it is in fact fiction it is a clear
depiction of the insanity of this communist "paradise". This is also a wonderful"HEADS UP" to all VENEZUELANS. If Hugo Chavez becomes another
Castro you can see what Venezuela will look like in 44 years.
Book Review: Stuck in a Rut

Mr. Smith has a beautiful gift with the use of descriptions to paint mavelous pictures. His plot,at least in this book, takes a loooong time to take off and by that time I really didn't give a hoot about Havana or the Bay.
