The book explains lots of ready-for-action proven techniques for effective development. The language, diagrams, pictures and exercises make it easy and fun to understand. Some say a pictures says more than a thousand words, and it does.

Head First Software Development is another home run from the Head First series. I have bougth the HTML/CSS, Design Patterns, Object-Oriented Analysis & Design, and now this book.
