Book Review: Deviance or a Metaphor for Marriage?
Summary: 5 Stars

Publishers have been pumping out so much thriller/mystery/crime fiction lately--it all tends to blur together on the bookstore shelves. Familiar authors and tired titles with a core audience that keeps lapping it up indiscriminately. But in Heartsick, Chelsea Cain has crafted a true crossover story that appeals to any over-18 audience.

I hadn't heard about the book till its sequel appeared (Sweetheart). So I picked it up and read it in one day.

The concept is priceless for arousing curiosity, the satisfaction of which is teasingly doled out just enough to keep you tearing through the pages and wanting more when it's done. How can you not like a tortured hero with a painkiller habit who's fallen for his femme fatale torturer? Deviance or a metaphor for marriage? You decide.

Book Review: Very Different Detective Tale - Recommended
Summary: 4 Stars

Chelsea Cain's outstanding "HeartSick" really took me by surprise! I'll say upfront that raw torture scenes usually distress me (and this book has quite a few), but the novel approach the author took made it intriguing (disturbing, I know).

The characters are richly developed and I found myself interested in all of them, even the villain. I found the plot to be well thought out and written in an engrossing style.

This book might not be for everyone due to the torture and violence, but if you are fan of the genre you will almost certainly like this book.

Highly recommended! The squeal, "Sweetheart", is also a good read.

Book Review: Heartsick has set the standard....high!
Summary: 5 Stars

I picked up this book in an airport bookstore and opened to the first chapter hoping to find something remotely interesting for the ride.
From the very first page I was hooked! It was impossible to NOT buy this book. I couldnt put it down even after we landed three hours later!
The intricately detailed descriptions the author gave, placed me right in the scene. I was never left wondering.
This book may not be for everyone. If you get bogged down by dissecting every minute detail that may or may not be realistic, then you are not allowing your imgaination to enjoy a "fictitious" story. If you are an avid mystery-thriller reader, you will love this book.
When i returned home, I immediately ordered the next book in the series, "Sweeheart".

Book Review: Great Thrill Ride
Summary: 5 Stars

I almost had a major quibble with a plot point with this book, which right at the end got explained beautifully. Don't worry, no spoilers here. This is a great ride. I finished the book in two sittings which should tell you how drawn into it I was. Archie, the tortured detective (both physically and spiritually) and Gretchen the serial killer who held him captive before turning herself in, have a twisted yet fascinating relationship, that's as interesting as it is disturbing. I loved that I thought I knew where the book was headed, and then it steered me of into completely different waters. Unlike Tana French's "The Woods" which is more of a cerebral thriller, this is just a bite your fingernails, crouch down in the cushions, as it careens to the end.

Book Review: Psycho Sexy
Summary: 4 Stars

I was skeptical about this book at first but I'm glad I read it. Sometimes it was hard to put down that is why I gave it a 4. Overall it was a good read some parts were predictable but overall GOOD. Archie is MESSED up and of course he would be after what he endured, but why on earth is he comforted, attracted and close to this Psycho that completely destroyed his life? The best parts of the book were about Archie's ordeal with Gretchen. It's gruesomly detailed and those are the parts that make you shiver, the "Afterschool Killer" part of the book wasn't as gripping and very predictable. I feel that she was a little flat with that and rushed at the end. I can't wait to read the second one "Sweetheart" but the reviews are lacking luster.
