Book Reviews of HeartsickBook Review: Finally Summary: 3 Stars
Finally a book that actually held my attention. I enjoyed it. It was a thoughtful book with insight into the characters.
The problem I have with most current books and movies is the "flash." By flash I mean there is little story line but lots of filler: car chases, shootouts, unbelievable sex situations and stunts etc.
This book was different. It held interest without the bang-bang-shoot-em-up garbage. It seemed to get lost between themes but still it is a fine piece of work in my opinion. The female villain was not interesting, too over the top. I hear she's in the next Cain novel also. That will keep me from buying book. I just can't see carrying that character for another volume.
Book Review: Absorbing, Unbelievably Good Thriller Summary: 5 Stars
I loved this book and was totally absorbed in the story. Archie is a police detective who was horribly tortured and almost killed by a female psychiatrist turned serial killer. She had been killing for many years and many people while creating a human time bomb in others. Gretchen is the serial killer who was brought to justice and is in prison. Archie is now trying to catch a serial killer who kills teenage girls. Who is he? What is he? Can the Gretchen assist him in finding the killer or just messing with his mind. What is this addcition to pills that he has? How will this story turn out. Any fan of Dexter will love this book too. I can't wait to get started on the next book. Wonderful!
Book Review: OK, 3.5 stars Summary: 3 Stars
I don't read many thrillers, not because I don't like the quick pace and suspense (I do), but even though I know I am reading fiction, all the coincidences really bother me. This book is a prime example. Without giving any thing else away, I found all the interwoven storylines far-fetched, especially in a city the size of Portland. That being said, this book held my interest. It is an easy read and moves quickly. I will continue to read the series to see what happens because as screwed up as as the serial killer, Gretchen Lowell is, I think Archie Sheridan is even more screwed up and want to know more.
Book Review: Couldn't put it down Summary: 5 Stars
I had heard an interview with the author on the radio driving home one evening. Her facination with the relationship between killer and cop intrigued me as well, it sounds morbid, but interesting. I purchased the book the moment I got home and it was well worth the decision. I found the suspense addicting, the story line compelling, and nearly felt the characters manipulating me to continue. I had ordered a UK paperback and the cover was quite a conversation starter (and ender as well), no words, just drops of blood and a bloody hand print picking the book up at the binding.
Book Review: Very, very hard to put down Summary: 5 Stars
This is one of the most riveting books I've read in a long time. As a fan of Patricia Cornwell's early work, I missed reading novels that had the same gripping power (a quality lacking in Cornwell's later writing). But HeartSick provides this. It consists of short, intriguing chapters that develop the plot but still leave enough mystery to keep one reading. Furthermore, the characters are developed rather interestingly, especially the main detective. This book definitely made me want to read more from Chelsea Cain.
