Book Reviews of Her Last Death: A MemoirBook Review: Unsparing Revelations Summary: 5 Stars
This memoir is haunting and stark. The picture of this woman's mother makes one wince at the thought of having to grow up with her. How Sonnenberg manages to triumph is inspiring in the nth degree.
She also manages to convey the lovely and imaginative things her mother gave to her. That is no small feat.
Book Review: not very good Summary: 2 Stars
This book reminded me of Running With Scissors. Story of affluent dysfunctional childhood. Author tells of her mother's crazy lifestyle, drugs, sex, etc then she grows up to do the same. Her writing is mediocre at best. She keeps saying what a great writer she is (her father an author as well) but she's not.
Book Review: This should be categorized as fiction Summary: 1 Stars
I find so much of this book hard to believe, and so self-indulgent. If it was fiction, I would have enjoyed it much more. I have difficulty believing the author is telling the truth about 90% of the time. So many recent memoirs need fact checkers, and I guarantee this book would fail miserably.
Book Review: Her Last Death: A Memoir Summary: 5 Stars
A beautifully written and honest memoir about a young woman's struggle with identity and sexual promiscuity. Most of all, highlighting the complicated dynamics between a daughter's relationship to her beautiful, charming and mercurial mother--who also happens to be a compulsive liar.
Book Review: Very Good Summer Read! Summary: 5 Stars
I read this book in a few days. It was very good. There was never a point where it seemed to drag on, every chapter was interesting. I liked this book because it is a unique topic and unlike any other book I have read. I think the only way to describe this book is fascinating.
