Book Review: Dark but fitting ending to the series
Summary: 5 Stars
Feehan does it again with the finale of the Drake series novels. While darker than the rest of the series, she manages to close the loop with all of the minor characters from the previous six books, and she introduces two new characters which leave us wondering ... will there be more?!? The books are meant to be stand alone, but it is highly recommended, particularly for this book, that you read them in order.
Hidden Currents finally reveals Elle's and Jackson's story which, like Hannah and Jonas, was pretty much scripted since the beginning of the series. After the first few chapters we realize how strong these characters are and how much they are bound together, not just through their psychic link, but through shared experiences and mutual insecurities. It was a fitting end and well told story.
Like any other story, this book probably isn't for everyone. If you are in the mood for a feel good story, while this book gets there eventually, it's probably not the book for you.

While I somewhat agree with the reviews that pan Elle's recovery from the trauma she goes through is faster than realistic, the subject matter is handled so much better than in Deadly Game (GhostWalkers, Book 5), that I can't use that as a detractor for this book. I'm not normally a fan of books with such dark themes, so if there was one complaint I had about the book that would be it.
I don't find it unrealistic at all that Elle would turn to Jackson over her sisters for comfort and security, as we've seen this theme time and again in both Turbulent Sea (Drake Sisters, Book 6) and Safe Harbor (Drake Sisters, Book 5), where Jolie and Hannah, turn to Ilya and Jonas for comfort instead of their sisters. It also isn't atypical behavior for Elle to turn from her sisters as we see in Oceans of Fire (Drake Sisters, Book 3) and Dangerous Tides (Drake Sisters, Book 4) where she shies from them to protect their privacy, and we get glimpses of how much a burden the being the seventh weighs on her and how she tries to keep that from her sisters as well. Lastly, because of her experiences with Jackson when he was a POW, it makes perfect sense that she would turn to him, not only because he KNOWS some of what she's been through since he experienced it with her, but he's been there himself. Anyone who has been through any type of traumatic event in their life be it rape, child abuse, divorce, death of a loved one, cancer, etc. knows that there are support groups out there filled with people just like them, and that often time its easier to turn to them for support over the people who love them.
Onto happier subjects ... will there be more?!? We have known all along that there were others beyond the Drakes that possessed some of their abilities, primarily Jonas, Ilya, and Jackson. We've all been wondering since Turbulent Sea will a series on the rest of the Prakenski brothers become a reality? As another reviewer has stated, per Feehans website the answer to that question is yes! We kept hearing in this book that Jackson has a price on his head from killing a member of a motorcycle gang, with Stavros' brother head of what is most likely the same motorcycle gang, and Ilya's firm belief that Sid was undercover I can see the beginnings of a good crossover book into the new series.
Lastly, this book answered a niggling question that was raised by Turbulent Sea, namely if the "seventh" was bound to conceive no matter what birth control was used then how could Ilya have been this sexual super stud without having several offspring all over the world already? He answers that question himself ... much to Elle's consternation, in this book, thus shutting the door on what I thought was the biggest oopsie of the series.
