Book Reviews of High Noon

Book Review: Too Many Threads
Summary: 3 Stars

I've read many Nora Roberts books and "High Noon" was another book with the Nora Roberts "hook"...hooks that grab your attention in the first paragraph and usually hold your attention captive. This book seemed to have a lot of characters but without depth or much background. I started wondering if one of the "good" guys was really the criminal in question. It just didn't make sense to me that Walken would be introduced somewhere waaaay down the line with little background. Added to that, one thing I really dislike about most of these books are the abrupt endings. Once the catastrophe is averted, the story usually winds up without any follow-up as to the main characters. My favorites would have to be the Chesapeake Bay series and the Irish Trilogies becasue they did continue on with more storyline and actually left me very sad to end the saga. Please, more books that continue.....

Book Review: Disappointing
Summary: 3 Stars

As I read this book, I kept wondering if it was the 2nd book of a Nora Roberts trilogy. I just knew there must be a book before and a book after that could explain all the hanging threads.

I'm a big fan of Nora Roberts and Savannah is one of my favorite cities, so when I picked this book up I was excited. Her description of the city falls flat. It's as if she picked up a tourist guide and used a few quotes, never really portraying the real character of the city.

As for the plot, so many threads are just "there", with no rhyme or reason. Some characters are thrown into the story with no introduction, others disappear with no explanation. Major story premises are not explained --- for instance WHY is Phoebe forced to live in the Jones St house?

This just doesn't even read like a Nora Roberts book to me. Skip this one and wait for her next.

Book Review: A Big Fan - but not for this book!
Summary: 2 Stars

First - I am generally a big fan of Nora Robert's books. I adore the JD Robb series! I was excited that this book appeared to start to introduce a new cool heroine for us. Wow - what a disappointment. I am wondering if someone else really wrote this for her given all the pressure to crank books out or something. Honestly - there was absolutely NO chemistry between the characters. The handsome guy was milk toast - and the heroine was whiny and boring. My sister actually bought the book and stopped ready about 1/4 of the way thru - I figured that I just needed to give it more time. Don't bother - it doesn't get any better than the boring read it is in the first 1/2. I'm sure I will read others as they come out but I sure hope the next ones have some interesting characters and a story that makes any sense... Save your money on this one...

Book Review: Got a kick out of it!
Summary: 4 Stars

What a strong woman Phoebe is - she is smart and clear thinking. I thought the way she handled the stairway incident was very good. This type of thing happens and it's good that Phoebe shows that it's okay to be a victim as long as you don't allow that to define you.

I loved Duncan. What a way to get rich! I thought he was very good with Phoebe's mother, loved the flowers for the daughter. The way he makes others a part of his family makes him a very lucky person and he seems to understand that.

All in all, I thought it was well worth the reading time and would recommend it to others. It's not a red hot romance but it's a really nice story.

Book Review: Not her best
Summary: 1 Stars

First I should say I've read this at least four times, and I still don't feel like I fully get it. Duncan seems like a nice guy, but his backstory came so late in the book that I almost missed it the first time. And as for the conflict Phoebe feels about the house and her mother, I feel like that could've and should've been drawn out so much more. There's a sense of being rushed through the whole story, and it's partly because some of the lines are phrases and not whole sentences. It doesn't help that I read this for the first time right before I read "The Hollow," and this book fares worse in comparison.
