Book Reviews of Holy Smokes (Aisling Grey, Guardian, Book 4)Book Review: wonderfully amusing romantic fantasy Summary: 4 Stars
Guardian Aisling Grey and her wyvern lover Drake Vireo have decided on a simple wedding. However, unknown relatives are coming out of the woodwork from even unheard of paranormal places demanding an invitation to the wedding of the year. As the numbers grow, even imps want to be there though one must be cautious in allowing that species anywhere near a gala unless food fights are on the agenda.
As their wedding plans expand to the point they consider elopement, the hostilities between the green and the red dragons ignites into what looks like a heated war. Finally Fiat the blue dragon demands Drake back off as he has a prior claim on Aisling. Overwhelmed by it all, Aisling concludes she either remains single or she abducts Drake so that he can become her beloved spouse.
The fourth Aisling Grey romantic fantasy is a wonderfully amusing relationship drama with some YOU SLAY ME escapades. Fans of the series will enjoy the zany goings-on as the lead couple prepares for a wedding celebration that has completely gotten out of control especially on the supernatural plane. HOLY SMOKES, this is a laugh out loud tale that readers will appreciate while wondering elopement but to where, breaking up but they light each other's fire or I do while dragons war and Fiat heatedly objects.

Book Review: Aisling, the Demon Lord/Guardian/Wyvern's Mate for president (ok, maybe not)! Summary: 4 Stars
Action, nonsense, magic, and sexy men...what more can you ask for? Aisling runs a mile a minute trying to have a wedding, get out of being "Damned", avoid getting herself killed by red dragon sept members, and return to being officially Drake's mate.
In addition to the normal comic relief, Jim, the demon in a Newfie's body ("Who am I? Where am I? Do I still have all my toes?"), Aisling's Uncle Damian also gives way to some great lines, such as when he sees Fiat (beginning of chapter 8):
Uncle Damian: "That him?"...
Aisling: "Yup."
Uncle Damian: "Looks like a porn star."
Jim: "Do I want to ask how he knows what a porn star looks like?"
The dark voice in her head can get a little distracting at times (which is probably more to illustrate how Aisling is distracted by it) and her Stepmother's rants annoy you as they should (anyone else have a member like that in their family?!).
"Holy Smokes" is also more upbeat than the last ones. You are thrust into new situations and areas constantly, keeping you guessing where to next and who to trust. I get bored with traditional romance novels, but these type of paranormal romance novels I stock up on.
Book Review: Holy Smokes Summary: 3 Stars
In the fourth and what seems to be the final installation in the series, Drake and Aisling are finally getting married - as soon as she figures out how to get him to the altar!
As if the continued delay of their nuptials weren't enough Aisling must also deal with helping Drake fuel the warfare between the green and red dragons, beating Fiat (wyvern of the blue sept) off with a stick -- since he is still claiming Aisling as HIS mate, difficult family members who are popping out the woodworks and her demon dog, Jim, with his hilarious and smart-aleck commentaries.
It seems as though Aisling is finally learning how to get things under control as she is still in the process of getting used to her dual role as Guardian and Demon Lord.
This book is strictly for entertainment and is a fun read by and large.
Also, as other reviewers have stated, you definitely should start at the very beginning, as this is a series that you must read in order so that you are not lost - because there is a lot to keep up with.
I would be excited to see a 5th book set in place, but I do think that MacAlister did a good job of bringing it to a conclusion. 4 stars.
Book Review: Holy Smokes Summary: 5 Stars
Aisling Grey is a Gurardian, a demon wrangler. She is also a demon lord. Aisling doesn't want to be a demon lord but doesn't know how to get out of it without upsetting the people of Abaddon who would then wreak havoc in the mortal world.
Drake Vireo is a wyvern, the leader of the green dragon sept. He and Aisling are mates, or were mates until Fiat, the wyvern of the blue dragons, cheated and made Aisling his instead.
Aisling has been damned; she now has the dark power within her. She is desperate to be rid of Fiat and marry Drake. Drake keeps disappearing though. Can they save the world, themselves, and be on time for their wedding?
Katie MacAlister's imaginative storylines, seductive heroes and witty heroines never fail to entertain and Holy Smokes is no exception. There is action, suspense, and drama along with out of this world scenarios and red hot passion between Drake and Aisling. This is the first Aisling Grey novel I have read. I felt a bit lost at times because there is a lot going on and a ton of back story, so I would recommend reading the books in order.

Book Review: Not quite smokin' Summary: 3 Stars
Katie doesn't quite pull off a completely satisfying read this time around.
Others have mentioned that Aislings's continued clueless state about her powers and the ins and outs of the septs and guardians is wearing a little thin.
I have to agree.
If you are living with dragons and demons and powers of darkness, you would think a person would try very hard to learn more about what she is in to. I know, that would take away some comedic possibilities. But, I do think it would advance the series to "smarten" up Aisling.
It seems like a case of trying too hard to me.
I enjoyed it to a point. Jim and Rene are great characters.
I could follow the plot for the most part.
But there isn't a whole lot of evolving going on with Aisling and Drake after four novels. I think we need less boinking and more bonding with these two.
Forget reading this if you have not read the others. There is just so
much going on, you practically need a character compendium to follow along.
I love the way Katie writes. This very slightly disappointing effort has not put me off her books in any way.
