Book Reviews of Home Machinists Handbook

Book Review: Good guide for starters
Summary: 4 Stars

I found this book to be very helpful in getting started with my metal lathe. I have a 6 inch Sears lahte, not a Sureline. Non-the-less the basics are the same. The pictures and graphics helped to build confidence that the lathe tools were being used correctly. The earlier chapters on measuring and hand tools were a good refresher. There were some tips worth remembering.

Book Review: Home Machinist's Handbook
Summary: 3 Stars

Very much for the beginner, but some good tips and techniques. More valuable for Sherline owners. Seems like there is too much detail in some places, especially in the chapter on hand tools. Later chapters on machine tools occasionally use terms that a novice would not understand. A glossary and better indexing is needed. It's a bit dated; 1983 copyright.

Book Review: Good Basic Information
Summary: 5 Stars

If your just starting out, or been around for a long time, this is a helpful book. It has several projects geared towards the smaller lathe, that means that you can build them on almost any equipment. It gives information the beginner will need to know and gives that information in an easy to understand format. This book belongs on your bookshelf.

Book Review: A good book for the basic concepts for the home machinist.
Summary: 4 Stars

The Home Machinist's Handbook provided me with the answers to questions I had about the tools and techniques used to machine parts. It is a good starting point for me, I will look for more advanced books to find more specific information. This book has encouraged me to seek out someone with equipment, willing to teach me.

Book Review: For the beginner
Summary: 5 Stars

If you're a beginner at metal working this is a great book. If you're an old hand at metalworking you can find some good in here as well like the basics of grinding lathe tools, using measuring tools and general setup and planning of your projects. It's all here!
