Book Reviews of House of Secrets

Book Review: Deservedly so!
Summary: 5 Stars

Having read many countless non fiction books and in particular the crime varieties I have to say that many many authors seem to publish books of this nature. Must say that like in any other area, competition is fierce and I have read stories that defied description, how evil can people get? Well, to answer that question It seems that they can get as evil as they want. I do not know what makes me want to read so much madness, evil, violence, etc. Perhaps like many fine reviewers have already said is the thrill of getting close to a situation so unlike my own (knocking on wood), entering the world of individuals that are capable of the most atrocious crimes and be able to do this in the comfort of what is apparently a safe existence. Like taking a peek past the devil's door, a zone so barren from any sense of decency, that is not even funny. More like very scary. Not all writers of this type of books are equal. Like the old adage says: "all men are equal but some are more equal than others". This statement reflects exactly what happens in this genre. Some authors are steps above than others. I have read from one end of the spectrum to the other. Some write like they never really have any talent, no vocabulary, no sense of place or story, they just do not take it to the next level, but they get published never the less but the end result is like a junior swimmer jumping in the big pool with the likes of Mark Spitz only to be left way behind in the contest. How you tell the story is as important as the story itself. It might be a juicy tale but if wrongly presented it will end a misfire. House of Secrets was (is) a shocking tale in more ways than one and Mr. Lowell Cauffiel is a very good writer from the way he tells it. I had never read books by him and I am glad I picked this title specially at the current price with the special offer available (buy 3 get 1 free). When you read a whole lot of books it is very hard to be pleased by a lesser effort. Like watching hundreds of movies, after a while it is very hard to sit through the junk that somehow gets produced and shown nationally. Books are like movies multiplied by an endless factor. If it is a great book you are in for a total immersion only to come afloat after the last page is finished. One almost undergoes a transformation when reading something ghastly, ugly and depraved. It affects the person and hopefully teaches about human nature. What a fierce, unpredictable people walks this earth! Better be armed and ready than to be a sad victim of the type that never cease to end in this world. Nice, everyday almost innocent without a trace of distrust and these always find themselves paying the full price. The calculating predator, the insatiable monster whose lust for causing pain can not be understood by most. Yet, they roam and live, some have families while they kill and destroy all around them. Female or Male, they are manipulative, some with great intelligence, but their one common goal is as dark dark void. House of Secrets takes you into a journey where you constantly remain in awe at what some people are capable of doing. Any age, really. Great Book, do admit I went too far but thanks to amazon reviewers I picked this one as one of my 4 choices and they were not wrong. Since there are no halves (4.5) I gave it the full 5 Stars! For $6.99 forget about freddy krueger, nightmare on elm street, saw I II III and all future generations. Evil is knocking and all it going to take is to open the door of the House of Secrets!

Summary of House of Secrets

"House of Secrets" is a story of tragedy and dark horrors. With terrifying detail, Cauffiel takes readers into a shocking world of abuse, incest, and family murder--a world ruled by psychopath Lee Sexton whose ability to manipulate his children produced one of the most sensational cases in true crime history. 16 pages of photos.
"Eddie Lee Sexton is evil incarnate. Like Charles Manson, he exercised a cult-like mind control over others who did his dirty work. But unlike Manson, both Sexton's victims and his subjects were his very own flesh and blood." As strong as they are, these words from an assistant district attorney barely hint at the depravity hidden for years within the Sexton family. Strange notions about "Futuretrons" and hand markings that convey absolute power, revelations of incest and physical abuse, bodies buried in the camping area of a Florida state park-- House of Secrets has so many layers of weirdness that it will amaze even seasoned readers of true crime. Lowell Cauffiel has a talent for combining quotations from interviews and unembellished facts into prose that reads like a novel. Two people are dead, and the children who suffered the cruel fate of being born into the Sexton family may never completely heal from their injuries--but at least their story has been told.
