Book Reviews of How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight?

Book Review: Great visuals, mediocre writing
Summary: 4 Stars

My two-and-half-year-old daughter loves these "How-To" dinosaur books. I bought How Do Dinosaurs Go To School? first, which she was hooked on and triggered me to buy this one, which she equally loves. She can memorize and articulate the 10 dinosaurs names provided in the book, just as she could with the other dinosaur book, which also introduces 10 types of dinosaurs. However, while the illustrations are highly entertaining to a toddler, the language, like that in the other book, is quite lackluster. It would be ideal if the book also shed literary value and were enjoyable to read aloud to a child as well.

Book Review: a great bedtime story for little ones who love dinosaurs
Summary: 5 Stars

Another great book by Jane Yolen! This adorable book teaches young ones how they should behave at bedtime by using dinosaurs as examples. Each page features a different dinosaur, and within each illustration, the dinosaur's name is displayed (on the headboard of the bed, spelled out in wooden blocks, etc.). Not only can this book be used to coax children into bed quietly, children can even learn the names of these different dinosaurs! With the upcoming Disney movie release, the interest in dinosaurs is sure to peak. Be sure to get this book, as it is one of the best new books out right now.

Book Review: Best Bedtime Book
Summary: 5 Stars

Both my 20-month-old and 3.5-year-old daughters love this book. It is fun to read with fantastic illustrations, but there are other books that meet those criteria. What makes it so special is that reading this book actually makes it easier to put the kids to bed. Read "they give a big kiss" -- then give your child a kiss. When you get to "they give a big hug and give one kiss more" do the the same. Then read "Good night. Good night, little dinosaur." Then turn out the lights and exit. My kids are not easy to put to sleep, but this book seems to do the trick.

Book Review: Buy this book in hardcover, not as a board book!
Summary: 5 Stars

We got a couple of books in the Dinosaurs series as board books from my coworker, and overall my daughter (22 months at the time of this review) liked them, but the hardcovers are simply gorgeous with large, detailed and brilliant pictures. I got this book in the library, and Anna wanted to read it several times in a row (not to mention every night since then). I plan to assemble the whole series of hardcovers for her over time, since I see these books having a long life in her development from a bright toddler to a curious child.

Book Review: Does a Dinosaur Roar?
Summary: 4 Stars

Great book for my 3 1/2 year old son. He loves the colorful pictures and the story is simple enough that he has most of it memorized. In particular, he enjoys pointing out the little details such as one of the dinosaurs is holding a train in his hands, another one has a teddy bear. I think it's easy for my son to relate to the story since the dinosaurs depicted in the book have similar toys as he does. Highly recommended for preschoolers and anyone else who doesn't like saying good-night right away before going to sleep.
