Book Reviews of How I Became a PirateBook Review: My son's favorite book (right now). Summary: 5 Stars
We are big fans of David Shannon's books and my son loves pirates. We already had How I Became a Pirate when we came across this book at our local bookstore. I couldn't stop laughing when we read this book. Neither could my son. We had to read the book 5 times the first day (so far the only down side of this book is how often I am asked to read it). My son loves to repeat the lines from the book ("No sitting on Babies!") and laugh hysterically afterward. A great kids story and fun for the adults who have the opportunity to read the book to a loved one.
Book Review: Wonderful story and beautiful and engaging illustrations. Summary: 5 Stars
Purchased this book for my 3 1/2 year old grandson as an Easter gift. I've been told that he wants to be a pirate someday!... Gave it to him early as I thought it would be just what he needed after being at home sick for nearly a week!... He loved it, from the first page, the illustrations.. very imaginable and colorful (I truly think half the time I purchase books because the illustrations are gorgeous, "informative" etc. ). I watched his eyes as his mom began to read the story, which from page one... was believable to his little ears!... a great book!
Book Review: must have! Summary: 5 Stars
This book is a must have in your collection of childerens books! Of course the illustrations by David Shannon are amazing. Illustrations that are colorful and creative but beautiful for adults to enjoy also. The story, even though about pirates is wonderful for any gender or age range. The story is funny but also gives the reality of what would happen if you lived with pirates, and how much you would miss the little things your parents do for you. One of my two daughters, 4&5, and my favorite books. I give this book out as a gift as often as possible!
Book Review: morals are all wrong Summary: 1 Stars
I bought this book for my three year old daughter because she likes pirates. After reading the book once, I threw it away. I beleive the morals in this book are all wrong. First, the boy is on the beach with his parents, the parents aren't paying attention to him so he goes off with some strangers (pirates). FIRST RED FLAG! The strangers (pirates) then teach him how to be foul mouthed and belch. They also teach him that he doesn't have to eat his veggies. I think this book is awful and it should definately not be marketed to preschoolers.
Book Review: Fantastic book with beautiful illustrations! Aye! Summary: 5 Stars
This is such a cute book! My daughter is almost 2 and really likes it, but not as much as me and my husband! The pictures are so cute and the beach reminds me of our summer home on Cape Cod where I played for hours. The pirates come up on the beach and no one notices! But, the little boy decides to go back home because the pirates don't tuck him in or read him stories like at home. It is adorable! I can see little boys and little girls just loving this book! :) The illustrations are so unique and fun, as is the text.
