Book Review: Awesome book for dealing with college and life really.

I love this book!
Taylor is very charismatic throughout the book, and he does a great job with connecting his target audience (students entering college). He knows, no matter how cliche, college is a turning point for most people (as it is/was/will be for me). Its where we all have to grow up in some aspect or another and he gives great advice on how to accomplish your college journey and grow up at the same time. Now when I say grow up it's not because we're all children (Taylor doesn't suspect any one reading the book is) it is just that I know for myself I lacked the basic skills that make a truly responsible and professional person just that (responsible and professional). I didn't know how I was suppose to act in class, I didn't know if it was ok that I felt like I couldn't do something, if maybe I should lower my standards or reexamine my attitude. Taylor is one for believing in human potential and he spends his book explaining how you should dedicate yourself to your college imperitive as he calls it. He tells you why you should do well in school, as well as how. In essence, nowhere in the book does he tell you how to do your job (except for maybe the public speaking and speed reading part), he just tells you why and how you should do your job better.
He gives many examples of how most people think while in college and the differences between the best and the average. He also makes great points about your peer group (he calls it a reference group), your "belief box", and your attitude amongst other things. While reading the book I never once got bored, and I never once felt like he was just acting like a parent. The book is written in such a way that he is like a friend giving some great advice. He'll tell you the advice, he'll tell you why the advice works, and he'll give you examples of how it works. Then he summarizes which is a nice touch.
I don't want to sound corny here but I think the book changed my life. It got me to reexamine my life choices, my attitude, and my friends. It really is a powerful tool for those willing to listen. I think book would be great for anyone considering college and anyone considering that their life sucks and they want to make a change that helps them realize they were always in control.
