Book Reviews of How to Raise a Puppy You Can Live WithBook Review: Excellent book for new puppy owners Summary: 5 Stars
I have raised yellow labs for 15 years and this book has gone home with every new puppy owner. Yes, there are probably better books out there, but this one is simply basic and easy to understand. Ms. Rutherford was my neighbor for many years in Colorado and just the nicest person you could ever meet. She raised yellow labs for many years, as well, so her experience was and is much needed for the serious pet owner. She came to see my pups when born and always was full of encouragement and praise for my good job. I've spent alot of money buying this book and giving to my new pet families and they were just thrilled. Terrific experience but the book helps tremendously. Don't hesitate in buying it!
Book Review: Good book for starters... Summary: 4 Stars
When I received this book, I realized it was not at all what I had been looking for. This book would have been great, had I bought it before I got my puppy. However, I'd had my little bundle of joy for a few weeks already, and was looking more for potty training, and training in general information. I must admit, I did read it, and learned quite a few new things, especially about behavior. I did skip the first half of the book though, as it did not pertain to us. It talks about how to prepare your home for when you get a puppy, and how to introduce them to the environment. If you haven't gotten your puppy yet, this is a great first read.
Book Review: Great! Summary: 5 Stars
I absolutely loved this book. It was such an easy read and helped me so much. I only wish that I would have bought the book before I got my puppy. There are things I wish I would have done the first day I brought her home. This book starts off with tips on how to pick your puppy then outlines how to make the first day with you a good one for the puppy. It also outlines the dogs behavioral patterns until your puppy is no longer a puppy. I really relied on this book a lot while raising my puppy and learned a lot. I recommend this book to everyone...especially those that like to finish a book in one day :)
Book Review: Good choice Summary: 4 Stars
The book was suggested by my MIL who is a huge dog person. I think it did a great job of giving specific details with photos, which was nice. I feel like it was a helpful to remind me of all that is required to have a dog. I'm going to have all the family read it so we all know what is expected of us before we proceed with getting a dog. One thing I wished it talked about was incorporating a dog into a house with other animals. It didn't mention it at all. Overall, it was easy read, clear and to the point and will be easy to reference once we move forward and get a dog.
Book Review: Best Puppy Book overall Summary: 5 Stars
I have read dozens and dozens of puppy training books, along with conducting first hand KPT training and Basic 1,2 & 3 obedience, and this is by far, the best overall puppy training book I've seen. I have given this book out to so many new puppy owners that I've started to keep a few around on hand for emergencies. That new puppy owner that I come across who doesn't have a clue what to do first....they have this book in hand within minutes so at least they're equipped with the basics. Would highly recommend it as a staple in your puppy/dog library.
