This book actually does what it says, and which is, give you an information as to what the nuts and bolts of starting and running a law office are. I particularly liked his advice on owning your telephone number and understanding your staffing needs before employing a staff. The computer hardware, software and storage advice in this book is priceless in my opinion. These are things I would not have really considered important for starters in a solo's life. He also dealt with the marketing aspects of law practice, how to source new clients and where to office.
I gave this book four stars because it did not go into details as much as I would have loved in the areas of sourcing jobs/work and clients when you have nothing at all. The author was able to go solo easily because of his former business background and he also had plans from day one in law school toward doing so. However, most of the people who are going to buy this book (myself included) never had such plans but would have to do it anyway because of circumstances beyond their control. Thus they would be looking for some hand holding. Having said that, I still believe that not reading this book is a big mistake for anybody thinking of going solo. My advice is to combine it with other books on the subject as I have just recently done (Jay Foonberg's book).
