Book Reviews of I Hope They Serve Beer In HellBook Review: Unremarkable. Summary: 2 Stars
Update 8/22/08: I guess this review was edited by someone other than me and parts of my prior review were omitted. Pretty pathetic -- probably one of Tucker's no-lives who completely define themselves through a closet homosexual desperate for attention. Well, good job, you've edited another post to try to artificially prop up Tucker's poor writing and soon to be sad attempt at a movie.
The book is saturated with typographical, spelling, and formatting errors--almost to the point that it interferes with the syntax and sentence/paragraph flow in some stories (especially the new ones).
Don't get me wrong, I was a big fan of Tucker Max when he first started writing his stories, but the book is just too much--it reads like a 300 page broken record covered in copy errors--a bad poor first effort for the print medium, notwithstanding its position on the New York Times Best Seller list [...].
Book Review: absolutely hilarious Summary: 5 Stars
Tucker has mocked me countless times, threatened to beat my dog, bitten my arms until there were more bruises than not, and yet I still bought his book. His stories are hilarious, innovative and inspiring. The stories on his site helped me through the monotony of law school and the new stories in the book have either left me hysterical laughing or shaking my head in disgust and amusement.
His newest stories are evidence that he has matured and truly mastered the art of storytelling. These aren't your typical frat boy drinking stories and they aren't just about Tucker having sex and/or making fun of fat girls (though both are included). Instead, Tucker continues to indulge in every whim, disregards even immediate consequences, and realizes that just being himself is enough to make him quite invincible. His ego is inflated for a reason- he's a god to undergrad males and a sexual conquest for females.
Book Review: World's Biggest Jerk Wins Affection Summary: 5 Stars
Tucker Max may be one of the most notorious scumbags on the face of this planet, but by far the most loved as well, as contradictory as that may seem. I know that a lot of people hate him for his lude behavior, especially towards women. Being a woman, I can see how it can be offensive, but this guy is funny as hell. I wouldn't dream of coming up with some of the crazy antics that he does or even dare to say some of the words that come out of his mouth, and I believe that is what makes him truly remarkable; his lack of human compassion or even quite possibly a soul for that matter. Reading his stories on the internet caused hours of hysterical laughter, and the books are no different. This stuff can make you laugh until you pee your pants, but I would only recommend it for those who can take racist, sexist, and despicable jokes lightly for that seems to be the life of Tucker Max. In other words, this book is beautiful.
Book Review: I Also Hope They Serve Beer In Hell Summary: 5 Stars
The first book I've read that made me laugh so hard my stomach hurt. The individual "haters," if you will, are one of 4 things:
1. Jealous young men wishing they lived the wild, hilarious life Tucker has.
2. Women (in cyber-disguise) that he tells of in the book.
3. Duke Law admin. upset with his mocking of the program and J.D. degree of and in itself.
4. Fat women wildebeasts.
This guy is so witty...even the young ladies I showed the book appreciated his tales. Maybe it was the fact that I could relate to many of the stories...but not most. They're too crazy, unthinkable, and down right piss-your-pants funny for most to experience. If you have stories that can top his, get writing because I want a copy of your book!!
Only downside is his pompous, rich-kid attitude sometimes gets annoying. Small price to pay...he really is just telling it how it is.
Book Review: Made me shoot beer out of my nose Summary: 5 Stars
I just got my two copies of the book yesterday. One for my bookshelf and one for the public bathroom in my hallway. While all of the new stories were great, the one I appreciated the most was "The Midland Texas Story". The exchanges between Mike and Cliff are hilarious.
I have family members that live in Texas. Although I have never been there, when they do come up here, they make me laugh. Yes, they really do drink that much beer in Texas. It is incredible. I was cracking up when Mike and Cliff would dog on Tucker all the time. That is how born and bred Texans really are. They are a different breed, allbeit a totally lovable and hilarious breed. A great book. Best line in the new book:
Tucker: "I wish I could do that."
Mike: "I don't think he'd let'cha."
I actually shot beer out of my nose on that one (You have to read the story to get it, I won't give anything away).
