Book Reviews of I Like You: Hospitality Under the Influence

Book Review: Old Entertainment for Today!
Summary: 5 Stars

You may notice that Amy's book has gotten negative reviews -mainly coming from those who are fans of her brother's work. Well Amy's sense of humor is much more warped (I often have to wonder if they ever saw the TV show "Strangers with Candy" she was on). It's an absolutely hilarious book with great and fun ideas. It's particularly funny to get for someone in your family if they're expecting your same old run-of-the-mill cook book or etiquette tips. While some of the material may seem inappropriate (see the references it mentions in the review), it's one of the only books I've ever read where I find myself having to cover my mouth because I'm laughing out loud in public.

Book Review: Quirky
Summary: 3 Stars

This may prove to be the most difficult book I've ever reviewed. It's a cookbook with recipes such as Split Pea Soup, Yogurt Spaghetti, Southern Fried Chicken, Yorkshire Pudding, cakes for special occasions, assorted drinks, as well as instructions on party planning, conversation starters for blind dates, how to give yourself a breast exam, the art of putting on panty hose, and gift ideas for the elderly. Also included are craft ideas such as how to make a needle wallet, a paper clip necklace, brick bookends, and several other useless items. Anecdotes are sprinkled throughout. This might make a unique idea for a quirky hostess gift. Note: contains profanity.

Book Review: Blends recipes with whimsical and pointed observations about food and hospitality in the modern era
Summary: 5 Stars

I LIKE YOU: HOSPITALITY UNDER THE INFLUENCE covers everything from the moderate use of drugs in a party setting to lumberjack lunches and children's parties. It blends recipes with whimsical and pointed observations about food and hospitality in the modern era, conveying the author's lively passion for entertaining. Any general-interest lending library will find it a fine acquisition: even those with any prior familiarity with New York Times best-selling author Amy Sedaris will find the visual approach captivating.

Book Review: this book is the best!
Summary: 5 Stars

Those who are offended by this book need to get over yourselves. Maybe you need to research the author before buying? I think this is more of a comedic effort than a funtional cookbook/hostess book. Anyone with half a brain would come to this conclusion without even cracking open the book. Really, would a serious cookbook author subtitle the book "Hospitality under the influence?" It is meant to be funny! Maybe you 1 star reviewers need to stick to Betty Crocker.

Book Review: Hilarious!
Summary: 5 Stars

This book is very funny! It not only gives actual recipes, but really explores the depths of parties and what could go wrong. There is some sarcasm in the book and it's def not the book you want to give to your grandmother. This isn't your classical cookbook, more of a humurous read that does have some recipes and party ideas mixed in. I am very pleased with my purchase and would def. recommend this book to any open minded gal who likes to entertain.
