Book Reviews of If Democrats Had Any Brains, They'd Be Republicans

Book Review: The point is not the style, it's the ideas and principles espoused
Summary: 5 Stars

People can argue about style, etc., but who cares. I don't care about that or which politician did something illegal. All I care about is WHAT WORKS TO CREATE A PROSPEROUS NATION. It is truly very interesting that so many people who enter their opinions just call names and don't use facts or logical arguments. Because in order to discover what will work to make this nation or any nations prosperous and successful, facts and logic will have to be employed. I don't care if Ann cracks jokes, it's entertaining - but what I really care about is "will her ideas work to make this nation prosperous?" It seems so many people in this nation can't get past jokes and name-calling and humor to see the ideas - and of course people like Ann are just using jokes and biting sarcasm to communicate certain IDEAS that they believe in, certain principles that they believe will work to make the nation successful. That - ideas and principles - are what it's all about.

For example - in another discussion on Amazon, someone made the statement "The business of government is to take care of its citizens". Well, look around the world and you'll see that's a recipe for weakening a nation. If you really want the European model of government fixing everybody's problems and giving everyone "free" health care (although it's actually paid for by your taxes and inefficiently provided by a government with no competition), move to Europe! I recently spoke with a friend of mine who moved here from Sweden. She told me the income tax there is 70%. But, as she proudly told me, "Everybody has health care!" I said, "How good is the quality of the health care?" She said, "It used to be top notch, but now the quality is going down." I said, "Why do you think that is happening?" (although I already knew the answer). She said, "I think they're running out of money." BINGO. The trade-off for expecting the government to take care of all your problems, is that you have to pay them to do it, and then they do it inefficiently.

Another person on another discussion said that conservatives are "savage" "Social Darwinists" for requiring every person to work hard and take responsibility to provide value to the world. That's not "savage", that's common sense. But saying that it is a government's "moral duty" to make sure no one suffers because of their lack of skills is ridiculous, and more importantly, it won't work. What's "immoral" and "unfair" is to demand that the productive protect the stupid from their own stupidity (by the way, a high school education is still free in this country, you have the choice to get A's or D's, so there is no reason or excuse whatsoever for someone not to be successful and at least find a decent job by which they can make a living). If you want to eliminate all "dog-eat-dog" in the world, you eliminate all competition, and you have flat-out Communism, which has (obviously) been proven to work about as well as driving your car into the lake.

In another entry on another discussion, it was stated that employers "owe" their employees a good living. I would argue that nobody "owes" anybody anything, but rather we must all earn our keep. This sense of entitlement is at the core of the victim mentality and the "government must take care of all my needs and make sure I don't hurt" mentality. Nobody owes you anything. You are a human being, and as such are required to take care of yourself. In America this is entirely possible for everyone.

In conclusion, all political discussion is about WHAT WORKS. And WHAT WORKS is obvious if you study history and look around the world at different nations that do things different ways, and take stock of the results they get. If you look around the world, the most prosperous nations are the nations that have the purest capitalism. Socialist and socialist-lite nations are simply not as prosperous, and never have been. End of argument. Why did my Swedish friend move here? I asked her...she said "I wanted a better life." Why aren't Americans moving to Sweden or France in droves? If you want socialism-lite, that's the place to go, isn't it? Why is everybody trying to get into the U.S.? It's because of the opportunity we have as individuals to keep the rewards of our labor instead of the government taking 70% of it and using it to give us what they think we want. The United States of America's dedication to "social darwinism" is what makes us the best place on earth to live - and the most prosperous nation on earth. The average "poor person" in the U.S. as defined by the government has cable TV and a larger living space than the average person (not poor person, person, period!) in Europe. (These stats have been all over the news recently, by the way). 80% of child poverty in the U.S. (as defined by children who sometimes do not have enough to eat) would be eliminated instantly if 1)even one of the child's parents would work 40 hours per week, or 2)women would marry the fathers of their children. There is virtually no poverty in America, and it's because of "social darwinism" - actually expecting people to be productive instead of taxing them like crazy in order to "take care of them" and "make sure no one suffers". If you want socialism-lite, go ahead and move to Sweden or France or Canada. But there is a simple reason no one is moving there, and everybody wants to move here. It's called capitalism and limited government. I would disagree with the statement "The business of a government is to take care of its citizens." I would say instead, "The business of a government is to protect its citizens from outside invasion and criminals, and otherwise get the heck out of the way!"

Get past the biting sarcasm and scathing wit, and look at the ideas that people are promoting. Bottom line, the ideas and principles that Ann espouses have been proven by history to produce success and prosperity - they are what has made this nation the most powerful and prosperous nation on earth (in just 250 years of existence, far out-performing "socialist-lite" nations that have been around for thousands of years longer). That's why we're trying to "conserve" these ideas as the principles by which we run our nation - because they work. 5 stars for Ann's book, not because she's got attitude, but because the ideas she promotes WORK. End of story.

Summary of If Democrats Had Any Brains, They'd Be Republicans

?Uttering lines that send liberals into paroxysms of rage, otherwise known as ?citing facts,? is the spice of life. When I see the hot spittle flying from their mouths and the veins bulging and pulsing above their eyes, well, that?s when I feel truly alive.?

So begins If Democrats Had Any Brains, They?d Be Republicans, Ann Coulter?s funniest, most devastating, and, yes, most outrageous book to date.

Coulter has become the brightest star in the conservative firmament thanks to her razor-sharp reasoning and biting wit. Of course, practically any time she opens her mouth, liberal elites denounce Ann, insisting that ?She?s gone too far!? and hopefully predicting that this time it will bring a crashing end to her career.

Now you can read all the quotes that have so outraged her enemies and so delighted her legions of fans. More than just the definitive collection of Coulterisms, If Democrats Had Any Brains, They?d Be Republicans includes dozens of brand-new commentaries written by Coulter and hundreds of never-before-published quotations. This is Ann at her best, covering every topic from A to Z. Here you?ll read Coulter?s take on:

? Her politics: ?As far as I?m concerned, I?m a middle-of-the-road moderate and the rest of you are crazy.?
? Hillary Clinton: ?Hillary wants to be the first woman president, which would also make her the first woman in a Clinton administration to sit behind the desk in the Oval Office instead of under it.?
? The environment: ?God gave us the earth. We have dominion over the plants, the animals, the trees. God said, ?Earth is yours. Take it. Rape it. It?s yours.??
? Religion: ?It?s become increasingly difficult to distinguish the pronouncements of the Episcopal Church from the latest Madonna video.?
? Global warming: ?The temperature of the planet has increased about one degree Fahrenheit in the last century. So imagine a summer afternoon when it?s 63 degrees and the next thing you know it?s . . . 64 degrees. Ahhhh!!!! Run for your lives, everybody! Women and children first!?
? Gun control: ?Mass murderers apparently can?t read, since they are constantly shooting up ?gun-free zones.??
? Bill Clinton: ?Bill Clinton?s library is the first one to ever feature an Adults Only section.?
? Illegal aliens: ?I am the illegal alien of commentary. I will do the jokes that no one else will do.?

If Democrats Had Any Brains, They?d Be Republicans is a must-have for anyone who loves (or loves to hate) Ann Coulter.
