Book Review: A book for those serious about cooking
Summary: 5 Stars

I enjoy cooking, but no where could I find anyone to teach me about it the way I felt it in my heart, until, that is, I found Alton Brown on the Food Network. After watching him for some time I decided to buy this book, and though I've not read through the whole thing - I take my time and digest the literature so the food is good and digests well - I feel as though I will come away with everything I want to know without the hassle or "have-to" of schooling until I feel like it.

This isn't the normal cook book for someone who is looking for normal recipies off his show. Instead this is written in a text book fashion. It explains different techniques in cooking step by step down to a science.

By far this is one of the best books on cooking I have ever picked up. It has built my confidence and enhanced my cooking ability. People looking to buy this book should look at "I am just here for MORE FOOD" where he goes into baking principles.

Alton Brown delivers on a solid, fact-tacular tome of cooking including recipes, science and tons of reference material. This "Director's Cut" is exactly that--an enhancement of the first edition of the same cookbook.

Get this book if you are interested in not only how to cook well, but why we do the things we do for different preparations.

And, on a professional note, the information display and graphics in this book are pretty awesome.

Book Review: You can't go wrong with Alton!

Alton Brown is great no matter what medium. Television or books or whatever. This cookbook is no exception. I got it for my husband because he loves to watch "Good Eats" and is always trying out Alton's recipes. He got it for Christmas and has already done quite a few recipes from it. He loves it! It's easy to follow and has a lot of fun, scientific information along with it. He says it's the best cookbook we'll ever have and the last one we'll ever need. :)

Book Review: Learn something new every day

I'm Just Here for the Food is about the most informative book I've ever seen, or could imagine. Why does one braise one cut of beef and roast another? Alton lays it all out, as well as provides the building blocks for creating your own recipes, as well as some sample recipes. One thing I learned is not to crowd the pan when trying to carmelize something, cause if there's no room, the food is going to steam more than brown. If at all possible, get this book.
