Book Reviews of ImmortalityBook Review: Good book, but.... Summary: 3 Stars
I agree with some of the reviews. This book is 100 pages too long. There is an incredible amount of details for events of very little relevance. However, even though it is a little tedious at times, it does not really take away much from the story, and to some degree it helps to create a very detailed setting in your mind. I found myself skipping some paragraph as result.
The idea presented is spectacularly interesting, and it opens up many angles to re-interpret human history. The basic statement on this novel has monumentally wide repercussions on every single detail of the human existence. I felt the same reaction to this book I had for the movie "Matrix" (First part only).
What is really a shame is that after a well crafted and elaborated build up of suspense, and after a billion questions have been planted on your mind, then the writer left you hanging in mid air....literally. I couldn't believe there were not more pages.
Almost none of the questions seeded in your mind through the initial part of the story are answered. It feels like the writer just got tired of writing this story and just wrapped it up quickly and in the lames and most illogical ending I have ever come across.
Also, toward the end, the main characters completely decouple from logic and the detailed story they are being part of. Either that or they are the most selfish, egotistical, people I have ever read about....the book said otherwise, so it has to be that their behavior started to move away from the logical behavior of a human in their shoes. However, this is not as bad as the lack of answers mentioned above. Maybe, there are some people out there that are like these two.
I still recommend this novel. The idea behind the plot is really astonishing.
Book Review: Disappointed Summary: 2 Stars
I am surpised that the reviews of this book are as good as they are. Ultimately I was left very unsatisfied and unhappy. The book did have some good features and so I gave it two stars, but I would not recommend you spend your time on this.
First the good:
It had interesting characters that were multi dimensional
It had some interesting action scenes which fit the plot well
Up until a certain place the story line was decent and engrossing
Now for the bad:
There are strangely disconnected narrative portions of the book that don't come from any of the characters. This was true especially in the start of the book but disappeared later. This "omniscient" voice seems awkward.
The scifi part of this book was so completely implausible and disappointing that I found myself laughing and shaking my head. This book is purportedly about nanotechnology but actually, after 350 pages, you discover the book is about something else. The use of the term nanotechnology throughout the book is incorrect. What's strange is that the author takes pains to provide for credible scifi plot twists that are great till it comes to the big one.
After realizing the direction the author was going in (which I did about 60% in) I kept thinking that he will reveal soon that this plot direction was false. Sadly, I was left wondering what he was thinking.
As an avid fan of scifi, science, and apocalyptic stories, I was ultimately disappointed. There was promise here, but it was never realized.
Book Review: Hard to put down Summary: 5 Stars
This is an all around GOOD read...and not just for SF fans!
I admit, science-fiction is my favorite genre. But this book should appeal to a very broad audience; it has just enough intriguing "science" concepts to keep your brain cells firing nicely without bogging you down outside of the plot line.
When I discover a book like "Immortality" I am thrilled: a well constructed plot, fast moving story-line, well developed characters, attention to small details that add the feeling of reality to the writing, adroit blending of innovative concepts and current issues for earth and humanity...Wow.
I've wondered about how it would be when modern humans began noticing an evolutionary movement into our future, and what specific events might generate that shift...enter "Immortality" and human v2.0 with its intriguing concept.
Enticing reading for anyone. If you enjoy a book that holds your interest so much that you don't want to put it down, and happily anticipate the author's next novel, then "Immortality" should be on your list.
Book Review: Excellent Summary: 5 Stars
This is top-notch science fiction, one of the best I've read in years. Hard science ideas are presented logically and believably, and in a way understandable to the non-geek. Characters are sound and manage to avoid complete stereotypes for the most part, though portrayals of military personnel, etc. stray a little close. The main knock I have is not the writing, but the editing. I'm not familiar with Cprompt as a publisher (self-publishing facilitator?), but the text could have benefited from a professional editor. Many typos and punctuation errors throughout, which were a bit distracting at times.
Book Review: Immortality Immortal Out of the Gates Summary: 5 Stars
Wow. What a read and what a big thought. Leaping light-years ahead of anything I've read to date, Bohacz brings his seemingly endless knowledge of nano technology to a what one might think is the non-technological origin of man.
His story builds a web of intriguing reactions that make mere mortals question what's inside us all. As you follow the characters through their own web of challenges, the plot plays out across all kinds of levels.
I thoroughly enjoyed the read that Bohacz has put down on paper (or Kindle if you're tech inclined). It's a solid five stars.
