Book Review: Courageous but not creative

I admire Kate Holden for sharing such a personal set of experiences, and I appreciate that it would have taken effort to feel into a troubled period of time in the past and make a memoir of it. Unfortunately the key ideas and themes of this book i.e. drug addiction and prostitution to pay for the habit are by no means original, there are plenty of stories just like this one. The whole perspective that she had come from an unbroken middle class family, received education and then fell so far shouldn't shock people, it happens a lot. In society we misunderstand prostitution, not all are addicted to drugs as this books notes (obviously Kate Holden was addicted). Plenty of workers are there for a quick dollar and I'm pleased that this book made reference to such circumstances. However, I did find this book tiring as it was predictable, and it subsequently failed to keep me fully interested.
