Book Reviews of In Praise of Stay-at-Home MomsBook Review: Dr. Laura is Awesome Summary: 1 Stars
You know what is so awesome about Dr. Laura? She's so sure of herself! It's important to be sure of yourself especially if you're going to go on full-court attack of other moms who can't or WON'T make the correct choices in life. I mean, some of her advice is just so helpful like how if you leave your kid in daycare they will turn out to be vicious and amoral because they were "raised by other kids" and it's JUST LIKE LORD OF THE FLIES! Oh my God, I never realized that! I must immediately alert all of my friends who have children in daycare that their children are in for a nice long prison sentence. And hey, if they don't want to hear it from me, I'll just buy them this book! But while I'm at it, I'll be sure to get them her old books too. Especially the one that states that women who live with a man first are nothing more than "shack up honeys." And I'll be sure to let my husband of six years and my three children know that their mother is nothing more than that. Although, where's the book about how it's a great idea to pose for nudie pics and have them leaked to the press? I guess that's just part of being a good mom to Dr. Laura. I guess I have a lot to learn. Luckily I have her book to guide me.
Book Review: Indispensible resource for all moms! Summary: 5 Stars
Bravo Dr. Laura for providing something moms have needed for a long, long time. In Praise of Stay-at-Home Moms gives us the tools and the support to do what is truly best..raising our own kids! It is certainly not always an option for every mom and Dr. Laura is very compassionate about that reality, however she does help those of us who can and do choose to be a hands on mom be the best mom we can be. The book is helpful and entertaining. I highly recommend it be placed on every nightstand in America. (A few husbands might find it a good read too!) I also highly recommend a book by author Melissa Stanton The Stay-at-Home Survival Guide: Field-Tested Strategies for Staying Smart, Sane, and Connected While Caring for Your Kids Stanton provides strategies for coping with kids and for the many issues women find themselves dealing with like self esteem, changing friendships, marriage issues and much more. Get them both and you will have everything you need to enjoy being a stay-at-home mom and not just cope everyday.
Book Review: A book for Moms and Future Moms Summary: 5 Stars
I am excited to read this book. It is about time someone wrote a book praising stay at home moms. I have a confession, I am a working mom. Oh how I wish I could stay home. We have tried to work the budget, have only one car, we don't go on vacations or live extravagantly at all. I even buy my clothes at the second hand store. Unfortunately, my husband needs help supporting the family. I have arranged my work schedule so that I get home before get off the school bus and my husband takes them to school every morning. BUT I still miss a lot! I miss enjoying the warm summer days by the pool with my girls. I miss being able to stay home when they are sick for a week. I miss just relaxing in the evening and laughing with my kids because I have too much house work to do. This book is for young women without kids who want to know what being a mommy is all about. They should read it and make this lifestyle their goal. IF young women understand that being a mommy is the most important job in the world, perhaps they will make sure to choose a husband who will support this goal and provide accordingly.
Book Review: You all must read very quickly! Summary: 5 Stars
This book just came out today so I doubt the two that have written reviews could really make any good argument against the book. My life has been changed by Dr. Laura and her advice is 'common sense'. Too bad so few have it!! That's why these books are needed! I am a stay at home mom and used to be ashamed of it because EVERYONE (except my husband) thought I was 'lazy' or 'stupid' or other names my own family members have called me. There are so many books, magazines, tv programs, etc... that praise the working mom so its nice to have someone praise the SAHM for once. She isn't bashing working moms because there are certainly circumstances that a Mom would HAVE to work. Its for the SAHMs. Someone sent me a magazine called Working Mothers and I didn't take offense to it. Working Mothers would enjoy the magazine. I would enjoy something like that for SAHMs. So I probably wouldn't read the working mother as well as sports illustrated or any other magazine or book that was written for someone in a different lifestyle. You two need to stop being so overly sensitive!
Book Review: NIce of her, but there are better books for SAH Moms Summary: 2 Stars
While I think it's nice that Dr. Laura wrote a book in support for stay at home moms, as a stay at home mom my book buying dollars are limited. (Who needs my money more, me and my one-income household or the Dr. Laura machine? I checked out this book but bought one by an an actual stay-at-home mom. It's called The Stay-at-Home Survival Guide: Field-Tested Strategies for Staying Smart, Sane, and Connected While Caring for Your Kids The author Melissa Stanton is a former career woman turned stay at home mother of three. She and the many moms interviewed for the book are very honest about the struggles they have as stay at home moms. I could relate to them so much (too much!). If you're a committed Dr. Laura fan go ahead and buy this book. If you're not but are looking for a helpful book about stay at home motherhood I recommmend the other one instead.
