Book Review: Finally, Stay-At-Home Moms Get Some Love
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm one of those people who agrees sometimes with Dr. Laura and disagrees at others. But I have seen stay-at-home moms vilified and excoriated just for making a choice to be home with their kids. It's about time someone gave them some much-needed encouragement. I bought the book, and am more than halfway through it (it is a quick read), and I think it's one of the better books Dr. Laura has written -- it's well-structured, concise, and isn't filled to the brim with transcripts from calls from her radio show. She makes thoughtful arguments for staying home and covers just about every angle. She even admits that it's difficult and there are times you'll want to tear your hair out. She says she wants ALL moms to read it, and, after reading most of it, I think that would be a very good idea.

Book Review: Dr. Laura Gives SAHMs A Boost and Some Pointers!
Summary: 5 Stars

I read this entire book yesterday. I could not put it down. Dr. Laura covers a myriad of topics that relate to the SAHM lifestyle, including the effects it will have on your children, your marriage, and yourself. She addresses the fact that it is indeed a difficult, and often lonely, life, but this is not a book encouraging SAHMs to feel sorry for themselves. Rather, she extols the values of caring for one's family. She gives advice on how to overcome some of the challenges that staying at home to care for little ones can pose. There is even a resource section in the back with websites that one striving to be a homemaker will find helpful. I highly recommend this book for anyone who is interested in how to make the switch, or who is already "in the trenches" and needs encouragement.

Book Review: This book is a polly anna view of life as a SAHM
Summary: 1 Stars

I'm a SAHM and was very interested to read something that validated my decision to stay at home with my daughter, but after reading this book, I feel anything but validated. The writing is purely her opinion and not backed up with any kind of research or scholarly work, but is supported by emails and letters from her radio listeners. As such she paints a picture of how glorious it is to be at home, while glossing over the stresses and challenges that she says can be easily overcome by merely thinking differently and recognizing how fortunate you are to be at home. I feel like she belittles the challenges SAHMs face and tells them to suck it up and make sure to look feminine when your husband gets home and be ready to jump in bed with him. Simplistic at best, but mostly condescending.

Book Review: Made me cry.
Summary: 5 Stars

I am expecting my third child in a matter of weeks, so keep in mind the hormones aren't helping. It is so nice to finally have some words of encouragement for the sacrifices my husband and I have made. We live on one income and, if you know anything about the military, you know we aren't getting rich with this line of work.

I am glad I have a book I can turn to when I am looked down upon for being willing to sacrifice car payments, cell phones, cable television and vacations in order to be the primary influence in the lives of my children. I feel sorry for those who take offense at stay at home mother's being praised for their choice to raise their own children. It is really sad that it pains some to see other's getting credit for trying to do right by their children.

Book Review: You CAN have it all!
Summary: 5 Stars

Listen up Ladies! You CAN do it all--just not all at one time. I took the very risky position to stay-at-home with my children years ago when there was NO support like Dr. Laura gives in this book. I decided to stay home with my first when I was making more income than my husband. I counted pennies and cried when I lost a baby's shoe at the park. I later took part-time jobs when my children were in school. I was elected mayor, honored with community awards and established a new career part-time and started a successful home business. My daughters were cheerleaders, a valedictorian, won awards in sports and both got scholarships to college--one a full ride. It really paid off to pinch pennies and put raising those girls first. Buck up and do it. Use this book to encourage you!
