Book Reviews of In Praise of Stay-at-Home Moms

Book Review: From a Husband's Point of View
Summary: 5 Stars

I am writing this review from a husband's perspective. I bought this book for my wife, a stay-at-home mom of our three-year old son. It is such a delight to see someone has finally written a book to praise and encourage all the stay-at-home moms. This book has brought me into perspective and some understanding on the things that my wife has to go through. In addition, the contents of this book have given me some ammunition in defense of my wife, who has graduated with an advance degree and decided to be a stay-at-home mom, from naysayers that include relatives. I'd definitely encourage any husband to get this book for your wife who's a stay-at-home mom. It will be a great source of encouragement to her.

Book Review: Great
Summary: 5 Stars

I've read three other books by Dr. Laura, and I've liked them all. This one, as opposed to Parenthood by Proxy, didn't have statistics and official data to back up her view, but that was OK with me. In a world where children are seemingly becoming less important, it was nice to read a book that supported my opinion that once you have a child, the child takes first priority - over that new TV, the big house and the vacation. I've stayed home since my first was born. It hasn't been easy, but I wouldn't do it any other way. My kids need me to raise them - not whomever I can pay. Thanks Dr. Laura for being a voice of sanity and reason in an increasingly crazy world.

Book Review: Nice to Feel Empowered in What You Do (All Day)
Summary: 3 Stars

This was a good reminder of why I have chosen to stay at home with my children. I had a career that I left to take on full-time mothering, and I have to say that I sometimes think the grass is greener on the other side of working full time, especially when I've had a long and difficult day with my children. Frankly, it's nice to have a book that makes you feel empowered about choosing to stay at home, even on the hard days.

Dr. Laura is preachy and polarizing, but for the most part, I do buy into what she has to say. A quick read that re-energized me, and made me feel more confident about what I do for a living.

Book Review: Excellent book
Summary: 5 Stars

I loved this book!!!!! I am now a stay at home mom to 1 year old twins and It validated the decision I made to quit work and stay home. I felt it was more important to stay home with my children then to be in the workforce. I have spent the last 15 years working and earning my two bachelors degree's, so emotionally it was hard for me to quit and be a stay at home mom. But as time passed and after reading this book I know I made the right decision and I know my children will be grateful for it. Thank you Dr. Laura for saying what needs to be said in this society.

Book Review: If Dr. Laura's Stupid, then I'm With Stupid
Summary: 5 Stars

Shame on Dr. Laura for suggesting that a mother should be at home caring for and nurturing her kids. What an antiquated, out-dated, stupid idea. Why would any woman raise her own kids when disinterested daycare workers can step in and do the job? Ask yourself: Would a child rather be in his own home, being loved by his own mom, and (gasp) eating home cooked meals? Of course not! We all know that kids prefer to be with strangers, tossed in with 30 kids (with snots in their noses), eating sack lunches, and not being loved or appreciated.
