Book Review: Funke Is Still Fantastic

The best-selling Inkheart trilogy continues, and ends, with Inkdeath. From the get-go I must tell you... there's no picking up this "stunning conclusion" without first reading Inkheart--and then Inkspell! Each fantasy builds upon the prior weaving an unforgettable tale of magical adventure.
Meggie's father, Mo, is a bookbinder. When he reads aloud, characters break free from the page leaving their world to enter ours. In the first volume, Mo reads from his favorite book, Inkheart, and several sinister characters appear in his living room. Just as unbelievably, Meggie's mother, Resa, disappears--into the book.
With one foot firmly planted in our world, the other finds itself fully in the Inkworld. In this conclusion, we see more of our favorite characters including little glass men, moss-women, pet martens, and white women of death. We also meet new, equally-fantastic individuals.
Unfortunately, backstory slows the beginning of this volume, Meggie's character takes a backseat, and this book seems darker, less edge-of-your-seat than the first two. Like the others there are a few words I would rather kids weren't exposed to.
But... I still give a hearty recommendation for this marvelous conclusion. Why?
I love Funke's poetic style, dazzling imagery, and timeless themes. And, of course, the book-loving undertone. Inspired, thought-provoking prose leads readers to wrestle with desire and passion. And good versus evil. Vivid characters beg to be loved, hated, or in some cases, a bit of both. An overarching message pervades: actions rather than words ultimately determine destiny. The words of others can not conquer our power to choose. Yes, I do love this book!
Billed for 9 to 12 year olds (I'd lean to the higher end) Inkdeath is a fantastic read. And I'm not talking fantastic for kids. This book is fantastic--period. Highly recommended.
Book Review: Inkdeath is Awesome!

Excitement, courage, bravery, suspense, happiness, sadness, reunions, losses.....Inkdeath. You would never have guessed what was going to happen in this book! Cornelia ahs written a really good book to finish the Inkdeath Trilogy.
Mo, Meggie, Resa, and the baby she is carrying are still trapped inside a world of wonder and excitemient, the world in a book, Inkheart. Here is the thing.. are they trapped or do they want to stay? Through out the book Resa, and Mo argue about whether they should leave the Inkworld or not.n Promises to leave are made and then broken. Do the end up leaving or not? Will the baby be born in Inkworld, or the real world?
This book has many complex characters, and only few simple ones. Many, like the Adderheads grandson and Dustfinger, may do bad things but really be good, making them seem like two different people altogether! Others, really are two, or in this case 3, people. For example Meggies father is Mo. She only wishes for him to be Mo, like Reas, but he wants to be more than that, he wants to be the Bluejay. A courageous, fearless, man who is to save the Inkworld, and its many innocent women and children without husbands or fathers. Even after that Mo is " the Bookbinder " , the man who gave the Adderhead immortal power.
I really enjoyed this book, but i did not like how Meggie, who was the main character in the first two books, was just pushed aside in this book, like a nobody, to make room for "the Bluejay". I recommend this book to everyone, old or young. If you liked the previous books in the serious, Inkspell and Inkheart, then you will love this! It is no letdown like some other series enders! HAPPY READING!
Book Review: The Satisfying End to the Trilogy

The greatly anticipated end of the Inkheart trilogy is here! As a fan, I quickly rushed to the bookstore and bought a copy. Inkdeath by Cornelia Funke is the best book in the series. Every chapter is filled with suspense and excitement until the end. The translator, Anthea Bell, does her job well, making Cornelia Funke's language vivid and imaginative in English (the original was in German).
For readers not familiar with this series, it begins with Inkheart; the second book is Inkspell. Inkdeath is the third and final installment. Luckily, for readers who are new to the series, Inkdeath comes with a synopsis of the first two books.
The main characters, Mo and his daughter Meggie, have the ability to "read" themselves into books. In Inkdeath, we find them in Inkworld, a fantasy world where certain storybook characters live. One of the main conflicts, in a complicated plot, involves an immortal, evil ruler named Adderhead, who desperately wants to prevent his flesh from rotting. Only Mo, who is a bookbinder, can make the book Adderhead needs and read him out of this problem. But Mo refuses to help; he is only interested in getting back home safely with Meggie.
This series is just right for fantasy and adventure book lovers. The story is well-crafted, and any good reader will at least appreciate Funke's imagination. The only thing a potential reader might not like is the length, but it is really worth the time. For non-readers, there's always the Inkheart movie!

Book Review: Ink Spell Death!

Having read the other two I was enticed by the story thus far. The ending of Inkspell left off on such a cliffhanger that i had to read on.
Right from the off this book pulled me in in way neither of the other two did. This book as a master piece of fantasy that did everything short of pulling me into its pages. You get so much more from the world of the book and so much more depth from the characters than the previous books. This is true for all characters, not just the main ones. You get into the minds of the diabolical Adderhead, the cheesefaced Orpheus, her ugliness Violante, and even the black prince. This book is full of dramatic twists and turns that not only keep you guessing, but also take you for an emotional joy ride along with the characters. Never in my life have I felt so close with the characters on the page and so at home in the words.
The book is fast paced and it never lags. This is truly a book for anyone who is a fan of the series and anyone who has ever loved books. I strongly recommend this book to own or to give as a gift to anyone. It is the stunning conclusion to the Inkheart series and even if you may not have liked the first two as much, you will love this ending.
Book Review: Amazing end to the most intriguing of trilogies

It makes me sad to read some of these reviews from people who thought INKDEATH was "boring" and that "absolutely nothing happened". I fell in love with these characters in INKHEART and followed them into the Inkworld in INKSPELL (probably the best of the three books). No, Meggie is probably not the protagonist in this finale, but the other "supporting actors" are pulled to the forefront, and their performances are beyond all expectation. The relationships between all the characters are more fully explored, especially the seemingly eternal bond between Mo and Dustfinger (my ultimate-favorite character). INKDEATH is much more dark and gruesome than the other two, and younger audiences should probably stick with INKHEART. However, all storylines are wrapped up beautifully, good wins out in the end, and the final chapters are skillfully written...I could not put the book down from about p.200 till the end. I have never in my 40+ years of reading been so invested in characters....I was sad in the end, only because I wouldn't "see" them anymore. I think if you loved the first two, you will not be disappointed by INKDEATH...you will want to stay in the Inkworld forever.
