Book Reviews of Inkspell (Inkheart Trilogy)

Book Review: Inkspell
Summary: 4 Stars

"A piece of wood broke apart in the flames, spiting out glowing sparks at her feet."The fire-eater Dustfinger needs to go back home. When he finds someone who reads him home, Farid plunges in after him and so does Meggie. But when something or someone goes into the book something has to come back out. Who is going to come out? If you read the book you will be suprised throughout. When I first read Inkspell,by Cornelia Funke, I was emmediatlety dragged into it. The main character, Dustfinger is very adventerous in this book, as are most of the other characters. In Inkspell my favorite character is Mortimer,Meggies dad. I like him alot because in the book the story revolved around him. This book is Fiction, but it is still very enjoyable. Another reason why I like this book is because I like fiction and it is an amazing book. I also thnk it builds your imagination because you have to picture things in this book to be able to understand it. I recommend this book for advanced reading, for teens, and adults who love fiction. I hope you read this book. It will drive your imagination out of this world!!!

Book Review: Great sequel - 4.5 stars
Summary: 4 Stars

One year after the events of "Inkheart" Meggie and family are happily settled in Elinor's house full of books. Mo and Resa are happily catching up on ten years of marriage lost, and Meggie is getting used to having a mother. However, her heart's desire is to see the Inkworld, and soon business left unfinished will sweep her and those she loves there in less than ideal circumstances.

Cornelia Funke has done it again with this thrilling tale about the power of words and the magic of story telling. Although not quite as good (just barely) as Inkheart this story will grip you from page one and not let go until the last word. I can't wait to see how the story ends in "Inkdeath."

For parents, this is intense for young readers and a few adult words are thrown in that your younger readers may not be ready for. This is PG-13 stuff, but for your discerning teen or adolescent this would be really good to read at the same time. There is a lot of fodder for discussion here that might be helpful as a parent.

Book Review: Loved it...
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought Inkheart and Inkspell together on a whim, and by the conclusion of Inkheart I was glad I had, I was extremely curious about what the next volume would bring. I was not disapointed. IS. picks up shortly after the events of Inkheart, and I am happy to say that the second installment moves a good deal more briskly then it's parent novel. Those who found Inkheart over long will likely not be thrilled to find that Inkspell is fully 108 pages longer then Inkheart, which I must say was off putting at first. But for all that I couldn't put Inkspell down, The story seems to have grown up, just as Meggie is growing into herself. Much stronger development, and a more balenced ratio of backstory to current events makes IS. a much easier read then IH. And a deeper emotional core make it a far more enjoyable one. There's still a good bit of slogging through detail, and scenes that could have easily been excluded, but I found these things easy to ignore. It's simply a truely great tale.

Yay, I'm being immature with my titles. Anyways. I'm going to be honest and blunt: It's been a while since I read this book, or it least part of the book. Now, I really tried to read it, I swear I did. I tried to stick with it... However, the book wasn't as good as Inkheart.

I really liked Inkheart, it was original, fun, and entertaining to read. I was so excited when I got Inkspell, I could hardly wait to read it...Until I started reading it. I got bored, I've tried to read it a number of times, but I always put it down after the first fifty pages or so. I just can't get enveloped in the story again. I'm not sure why, maybe because my tastes have changed, or maybe because the plot of Inkheart was original, but something that you only hear once and find it exciting before you get bored with it.

I'll update this if I ever manage to plow through the book, but most likely it's going to stay on my book case for a long time.

Book Review: Exciting Sequel
Summary: 4 Stars

Cornelia Funke masterfully introduces the world of Inkheart in this sequel to her aptly-named first book of the series. For lovers of Inkheart, the thirst to learn more about what goes on in the world which Dustfinger and the fire-raisers come from is quenched. Pulling the book from our world into a whole new world, one where mourning princes and supersticious kings rule, where fairies roam in the Wayless Wood, where street performers find refuge with a man called the Black Prince, Funke introduces an entirely new dimension to her already fascinating series. Characters try to rewrite the story in the book within the book. A battle brews. Romance blossoms in a world of no tomorrows. Funke's lyrical prose and intriguing plot twists create a book well-worthy of its predecessor. She introduces new and complex sides to characters that we only thought we knew. Inkspell truly epitomizes the belief that good fiction creates its own reality.
