Book Reviews of Inkspell (Inkheart Trilogy)

Book Review: A good sequel, but too long and sometimes boring
Summary: 3 Stars

I bought this book because I've read Inkheart and when I heard there was a sequel I just had to buy it.
Inkspell is not as good as the first book. Yes, it has a lot of adventure, yes it has interesting characters and the way Cornelia describes things is amazing, but the book is too long and while I was reading it I felt that lots of things didn't need to be there, and 600 pages could easily have become 250 making this a greater book.
It took me 2 and a half months to finish it, I couldn't read more than 2 chapters a day and it looked like I had more remaining pages everyday!
I love the idea of the book, about people reading other people in and out a story and adventures, fights, etc but it was so long and it became boring sometimes...

Book Review: Review from One Book At A Time onebooktime.blogspot.com
Summary: 4 Stars

I have to admit that I didn't jump out and read this because I didn't think Inkheart was all that great. But, I wanted to know how the story ended. So, I finally picked this one up. I'm very glad that I did. The story was much richer than the first book. It was written better with the characters coming to life more. Maybe it's because we finally get a look at the world that everybody was willing to go to such lengths for. It's almost like the author was able to write about a fantasy world better than the real one. I found the danger more real and the bad guys gave off more of that evil persona. I was just overall more impressed with this one. Believe me, I will be picking up the last in the series soon!

Book Review: Nearly as Good as the First
Summary: 4 Stars

I very much enjoyed the first in the series and couldn't resist the second. While reading the lengthy tale, from time to time I caught myself wondering why this chapter couldn't have been half as long or what the heck does this paragraph have to do with the characters/place/plot?! But in the end (though in my opinion, the book could've been 440 pages or so) the characters, setting and story are so strong and likable that Inkspell is most definitely a superior read. Better than Thief Lord and 90 percent of everything else out there in the genre. And now, having finished the book months ago, I still find myself thinking of Meg, her father, mother and Fenoglio. Yes I will assuredly read the next.

Book Review: Amazing
Summary: 5 Stars

I loved Inkspell - Absolutely loved it. It was in the series of books that first inspired me to write. The plot was just entrancing... who else ever thought of being able to read yourself into a book? Certainly many people wished they could, but I don't know of anyone else who has written about it. Finding a series such as this is a rare blessing. I loved Ombra, the Wayless Woods, and even the Castle of Night and the villain. The characters... how can you describe them? They're just so memorable. I loved Dustfinger, Mo, Meggy, Farid, Fenoglio, etc all.

I can't decide whether I liked Inkspell or Inkheart better. Both had their strong points. And both were simply enchanting.

Book Review: Inkworld Observed
Summary: 4 Stars

The idea of entering a story to observe and become a part of it thoroughly fascinated me. Ms. Funke spins her tale masterfully out of the control of its author Fenoglio who was sent to Inkworld at the end of the first book. In Inkworld, things are just as Fenoglio has imagined them only the story has taken on a life of its own and is not following the path he proscribed. Bad things have happened, people he loved have died and the story has grown beyond the boundaries originally set. When Dustfinger, Meggie, Farid and eventually Mo and Resa enter, adventure and tragedy ensue. Four Stars for fun, but Funke leaves you hanging in the end. Guess I am going to have to get Inkdeath.
